Thelma’s Dawn Getaway! A true No Drama Zone

I want to explain, more in depth, the property and things you can expect. The property is located on the Eastern Shore of Virginia and is surrounded by Salt Water. We run WELL WATER at this property and there are times when it will smell a little funny, because of the minerals in the water. The water is treated and not dangerous. Well water actually does have a better taste, but when you are not use to it, it is strange. We also have BUGS/ INSECTS around this property and I ask that you bring BUG REPELLENT with you. There will be bugs found at the beach, so do not be surprised if you see them. We do treat the yard and apartment! You will see mosquitoes, flies, gnats and spiders, insects that are found everywhere you go.

This is a Private apartment with 1 bath, 1 queen bed, 1 Trundle Bed with Two Twin Mattresses, stove, microwave, dishes, pots and pans. All the comforts of home! (AND THEN SOME)
Wash and Dryer, Dish Network TV, WIFI, Internet! As I have stated....YOU have your own parking space! This is the second driveway by the garage! You will see a sign at the entrance that says "Thelma's Dawn Getaway". You want to drive straight in and this is the room where you will be staying! There is also a sign right at the window that also says "Thelma's Dawn Getaway" This is where you will be parking. I can usually be found on the back deck if you should need me for anything!

You have free rein of the property and can come and go as you please. The kayaks are here for you to use, as well as the fishing poles! I do ask that you take a life jacket with you if you will be on the water. It is a safety issue and I want all of my guests to be safe. If you decide to take anything to the beach to use, please return it where you got it when you are done. The life jackets, fishing poles, paddles and umbrellas are found one the back porch beside the garden hose.

We do have beach umbrella's for you to use. Please return them back where you get it.

The refrigerator in the apartment is a little small, but there is a standard refrigerator in the laundry room. This is available for you as well. The bait for fishing will be found in the freezer section of this fridge.

Yes, you can wash and dry your clothes while you are here. You also have a choice to dry the clothes in the dryer or, (my favorite) on the line and get that clean and fresh scent!

There is a key that is available to you so you can lock the door if you leave. It is a very safe place, but you may feel you need to lock the door. This is fine. Just let me know!

Grills on site to be used by you. It is a propane and charcoal grill! There is also a smoker! There have been MANY GREAT MEALS cooked on this grill and I am sure many more are coming!

There is a golf cart, that is (LEGAL TO DRIVE ON THE ROAD) available for you to use while you are here! As you have seen in many reviews, it is one of the most loved things at Thelma's Dawn! It is here for YOU! Of course there has to be a catch in operating the golf cart. You must be at least 15 years old to be permitted to drive it by yourself, UNLESS there is an adult riding with you! These are not my rules, but the rules of the community.

I like to load up the golf cart when I go fishing. I put the poles, cooler, bait, drinks and everything I will need to sit down on the beach for a long time. When I go fishing, I mean business!

The outside of the property is a 1&1/2 acre property. We have volleyball, horseshoes, CORN HOLE, (yes, I said it....CORN HOLE) and other games that you can play.....Just ask us! Remember....we are here to make your vacation as special and memory making as we possibly can!

We even have TENTS and AIR MATTRESSES that can be used in the event you have more people that want to join you on your vacation! There is a 2 person, 4 person and a 3 ROOM TENT! This thing is BIG!

Then you have to remember all of the FISHING, KAYAKING, SWIMMING, PRIVATE BEACH, BEAUTIFUL SUNSETS, BONFIRES and so much more! This is YOUR TIME!! I want you to LOVE IT HERE!

So I have been asked how I came up with the name "THELMA'S DAWN". Well, my mother passed away from cancer in 2007. Mom was 68 years old when she was called home. I had a sister, Dawn, who was called home at age 28. She was murdered in January1988. It was fitting to name this beautiful place after the two of them.

♥ HEAVEN ♥

Christi and Rick are very down to earth peope who love to share a piece of their paradise. Christi's pure love for meeting new people makes you feel right at home. My lovey caught a stingray while we were there, they cooked up some to eat it was very tastey. We met some very nice people staying in the Tiny House. We totally enjoyed our stay!! We will be comng back! ! The pictures dont even begin to show you how much fun. You will have. Thank you so much for sharing your paradise Love James and Paula

This little hideaway is a diamond in the rough. We felt we had experienced a small slice of Heaven as we left. Christi was kind enough to let us stay one night on our way from one business trip to the next. Sitting on the totally private beach for 2 hours was exactly what we needed. We were greeted with fresh watermelon and blueberries. The frig had water and snacks. Having coffee was perfect for us. The bed is super comfy. The apartment had plenty of space for two. The property is well kept, and very secluded. We loved Silver Beach so much we drove around the area looking for properties for sale as we left town. We have already sent pics of Thelma's Dawn to our children in hopes they can visit soon. Thanks Christi & Rick - your place is amazing!

Great stay

We only spent 2 nights at Thelma's Dawn and the first night it was raining. So we only had 1 full day there. Christi was really a great host. My son got his braces put on the same day we arrived and she had made him some choc pudding and bought him some ice cream. She went above and beyond in the hospitality department. The location is secluded, but being right on the beach was AMAZING. We didn't get to play with any of the toys on the water, but next time I would love to! My boys (11 & 8) LOVED LOVED LOVED the golf cart. They were able to drive it and I'm pretty sure they spent 95% of the vacation on that cart. But as long as they had fun, I was happy. The sunset I caught was the most beautiful thing I've seen! The pull out couch was pretty uncomfortable for an adult, but the bed was comfy. The kitchen was stocked enough for me to be able to cook our quick meals. Thanks again Christi!

Great place to get away and enjoy the outdoors

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. This is a small efficiency on the side of the owners house. It has a comfortable queen bed, private bathroom with decent shower, a couch and kitchen area. They have a great beach area for walking, swimming, kayaking and fishing on the bay. The neighborhood and area are nice and quite. Great for running, biking, or riding the golf cart they loan you that's included. We cooked all our own meals for the week. From fresh fish I caught to shrimp, oysters, clams, crabs, steaks, and pork chops. Enjoyed coffee in the morning in the chairs overlooking the bay and beautiful sunsets there in the evening. We had fires on the beach at night while enjoying a glass of wine. They have one of the nicest grills I've ever cooked on. I enjoyed being able to catch nice fish right out of the back door. The only downside was Christi came out and showed off catching the biggest fish, haha! Christi and Rick were great hosts. They also have a very interesting goldfish pond that I enjoy taking to Rick about. If there was anything we needed that we couldn't find, Christi would get it, all you had to do was ask. They have an ice machine right there. So no going to the store for ice for your beach cooler or fish cooler. The ice is nice, the place is great, and Christi and Rick are fantastic! Can't wait to get back!

A little slice of heaven!

We LOVED our stay at Cristi and Rick's Silver beach "Thelma's Dawn Resort". The beach had clean and soft sand and was always uncrowded...for hours at a time we saw no one. We watched long lines of dolphins heading inward and then back out to sea. Kayaked with beautiful bald eagles soaring above our heads. Saw osprey...sand crabs...wild Turkeys....my son was thrilled to see all the wildlife. Cristi even helped him feed a nearby horse...and he got to hold her Amazon gray parrot. Not to mention the beautiful koi pond all magically lit up at night. For our family who loves nature- we loved it all! Including the fact that our lab Ben got to enjoy all this too! Cristi is a true recreational therapist...with what she and Rick have created on their property..and their genuine care and reaching out to make sure you're having a great time ....it's truly much needed therapy via recreation. Oh, I need to mention the golf carts- such a wonderful treat! Sunsets...amazing. Cristi built a beautiful fire for us by the beach...our first ever. Gave us a Japanese lantern experience we won't forget. I'm sure I'm forgetting to mention something....there was so much that made this place special. I feel like we found a really special spot in this world. Thanks Cristi and Rick for the FABULOUS EVERYTHING over the past week. When we pulled out to go home my son says, "I sure am going to miss Cristi!" That says it all! ....and did I mention the biggest softest fluffiest towels!!! Thank you!!!

The pictures and descriptions are exactly what you get and more. Christi was an amazing host. She gives you your privacy and yet the second you start thinking hmm I wonder if or I wish I could/have/need she is right there to help and accommodate. A little spot in heaven.

This was the perfect combination of rest and fun that we didn’t know we needed. It is a true unique and special experience to stay at Christy and Rick’s home. Everyone is so welcoming and helpful to make the stay perfect. And there is a great balance of us having a quiet, peaceful space. I really enjoyed paddle boarding on the Chesapeake. Awesome bonfire at night and star watching. Sunsets are something not to be missed. Our dogs were super welcomed and enjoyed their time too. Thank you! We will be back!

Perfect weekend getaway

Relaxing on a private beach, kayaks, fishing, bonfires, s'mores, making new friends, the list could go on and on. The host was attentive and energetic. Every request was met with a speedy solution. Our puppy, Eva, had the time of her life. If you are looking for quiet spot to relax and have fun then look no further! This is the perfect spot with endless possibilities.

Quiet and Relaxation

I visited Christi in January, during the off-season. I was looking for a quiet place next to the beach, and she made that happen! Her property is right on the shore. She has everything you need for an enjoyable stay. I brought my dog, and she spoiled him with treats. Every time we went out he raced to the porch to see if she was there. While I didn't take advantage of everything available, she had golf carts, kayaks, a bonfire setup, grilling, a swing, and chairs facing the beach. She's a gracious host and fun to talk to. I'll be going again the next time I need to decompress!

Slice of Heaven

Christi and Rick shared their slice of heaven on earth with us for a week and a half. They make you immediately feel like you are visiting family or old friends. Check in and out was incredibly easy. The hosts are excellent communicators before and during your stay, and very responsive to any request to ensure you have everything you need or want. All the amenities of home are there….plus some! Washer/dryer, golf cart use, fire rings with wood included, and THE BEST chairs and swing for morning coffee or evening sunsets overlooking the Chesapeake. Don’t forget the private beach at the end of the yard. It couldn’t be any easier to get to the beach! We used the kayaks and paddle boards. No extra rental fees….it’s ALL there for you to use (life jackets included). There was so much to do there we didn’t get to do it all - so we’ll be back!

Our Getaway at Thelma's Dawn Getaway

If there were more stars to award we would absolutely do so. Our family had an amazing time we because of all the work Christi and Rick do to prepare the way. We had great "first time" experiences here: our first time kayaking in the bay, and the first time we ever had crabs freshly caught and steamed right out of the water. The pictures on her site are only a taste of what's here. You see a great, decorated and clean, cozy room and read the amazing list of amenities, but you can't appreciate all of it until you are actually here and see this lady in action. She is an amazing ball of energy! When the site says you are family when you get here, you feel it. They are welcoming and we immediately felt like old friends. There is so much to do you can just park the car and not leave the entire stay. Want to go kayaking? Paddle boarding? Do it. Watch the waves and the sun rise or set everyday from perfectly positioned chairs or a swing? Nap in a hammock by the beach? Do it all. And more. We love wildlife and soaked in the ospreys, bald eagle, crabs, pelicans and countless other beautiful creatures. We also enjoyed Christi's birds, koi, and cats! We had carefree days of never knowing or caring what time it was or what day of the week it was. We enjoyed nightly evening rides through the quiet neighborhood on her golf carts, taking in the scenery and the breeze filled with all the beach scents you wanted: jasmine, salty air, the occasional grill and bonfire smoke. This is a place that feels protected from outside rushes and worries. You can just relax or play at will. Our neighbors in the Sandy Hill Sunset unit were terrific and so friendly. We enjoyed watching their children playing and we all had an amazing lunch on fresh crabs, steamed by Christi herself! Thelma's Dawn Getaway isn't just a place you go to vacation, it's an experience. You can't get this kind of enjoyment without Christi's and Rick's hard work. What they have done to this property is amazing. They have adapted it into a mini resort. We had everything we needed right at hand, including a fully appointed kitchen in our unit that we took advantage of everyday of our stay. She is a true animal lover and won over our little chihuahua right away! From picnics on the beach, to peaceful night's sleeps, breakfasts on the patio, shopping in downtown Cape Charles, and endless beach days, this is far and beyond our best, and favorite, family vacation! Relaxing Getaway

No frills efficiency inside — all the frills one could want on the outside. We just wanted to relax and walk the dogs on the beach and around the wooded neighborhood. But for those who like beach activities, there are all kinds of options. Very friendly and accommodating hosts!

Christine was a wonderful host

Christine was a wonderful host. It was nice to use her home for the holiday. She left us thoughtful Christmas treats and was generously accommodating for our situation. We will definitely stay there in the future when we visit family.

AMAZING VACATION with amazing people

The host is the most friendly, helpful, fun person We have ever come across. It was like being part of the family and still alone on vacation with the love of my life. So many fun activities like fishing , golf carts, sports, and bonfires right on the beach. We’re definitely coming back as soon as possible and I’d recommend this to anyone, couple, family, that wants to escape to a private paradise with a home feeling
