#AppalachianEchoes "Here we have a proud American country-town." I like the staggering towers: the carwash sign followed by the billboard, then water-tower. The illumination of the car sign makes locality and closeness appear important to this town, yet that does not signify complete isolation from consumerism, due to the Chick-fil-A billboard, a relatable fast-food chain to the south. They almost contradict one another, until the viewer realizes they can work together, especially under the other tower- distanced to the far-right, the American Flag. Yet, as if the America flag isn't enough alone, paired with my favorite part, the small sign reading, "DON'T SETTLE FOR LESS," this image simultaneously becomes a perfect capture of the American Dream in the heart of the south.
