Very nice place to stay with plenty to enjoy. It is somewhat off the beaten path and is a very quiet setting. The drive to Bar Harbor is a little way away but part of the adventure of being in Maine. Enjoyed our stay here very much and would be happy to stay here again in the future!
This vacation was the best one we have had. The house was beautiful and offered great entertainment. We all found a love for kayaking on the lake. Playing pool and ping pong was so much fun. The beautiful crystal clear lake was a great place to swim. We didn’t want to leave. The yard was like a fairy garden, so enchanting to look at. It truly was a wonderful place to stay.
We had a lovely stay at Molasses Pond. The house was exactly as expected/hoped for. Nice bedding, nice comfortable furniture. In good repair. No complaints!! We would absolutely book again.
Our large family rented 3 different homes on Molasses Pond. This home was by far the best. It was spacious, clean, well maintained and had a beautiful view from the living area. The outdoor area was perfect for swimming, fishing, kayaking and having an evening campfire. I would recommend this home to family and friends.
Great house, well stocked, very spacious and accommodating. A gem, right on a large lake/pond, in the middle of the woods. Stayed with family and dogs during a balmy October week and pretty much had the entire lake to ourselves to kayak on all week.
Had several Loon sightings and spotted a Bald Eagle over by the island on the Pond.
If you're good with a little unpaved road driving and follow the directions given to you by the owners, you're going to be very happy with your stay.
About a 1/2 an hour to Ellsworth for supplies and less then an hour to the lobster shacks in Trenton and on to Acadia National Park.
We had a wonderful week at the Calling Loon! Our family group consisted of 5 adults and 2 dogs. Upon arriving at the house, my husband's first remark was "call them right now and ask them if they want to sell." Lol! He absolutely loved it. The house was very clean and had everything we needed for the week. The landscaping was beautiful. We loved watching the sunset and the baby loons from the dock. My son and I took one of the canoes out and had a blast together. We also enjoyed the pool table and ping pong table. My kids and dogs swam in the pond which was surprisingly clean. The house is located in a very secluded area which we loved but if you are planning to do the touristy things, keep in mind that it is at least a 30 minute trek to get anywhere. The last mile of the road to the house is dirt/gravel and you really have to watch for rocks sticking up. (We drove a Cadillac sedan and scraped the bottom a few times but my parents had an SUV and were fine). The hosts, Eric and Shawna were very pleasnt and responsive. We would definitely stay here again. 10/10 for sure! (ps the mosquitos are relentless so bring lots of bug spray!)
We absolutely loved our stay on Molasses Pond. It was 4 adults and 4 teenagers. We had several days that we ventured into Acadia NP and Bar Harbor, and several days lounging around the pond house. The home had everything listed and previous guests may have also left some items we used. We actually left a wiffle ball set for future guests.
It had plenty of comfort and we didnt really lack for anything. I would suggest maybe having some more throw blankets for the living room to cuddle up with. Otherwise, the internet and TV worked great, the teenagers loved the ping pong and pool tables. We swam and paddled in the pond and truly enjoyed the home.
We highly recommend this property! The property managers and owners were wonderful. We only had to contact them one time because we lost power for a couple hours, but used it as an opportunity to go get some dinner out in Ellsworth. Power was restored within 3 hours.
We enjoyed the local lumberjack show, hiking in Acadia NP and shopping in Bar Harbor. We did do the whale watching tour and while we saw two whales, I am not sure we would do it again. It is quite pricey and unless you are able to see alot of whales, dolphins etc, it wasnt worth the money. At least for us, to each their own. That has nothing to do with this property, but did want to leave it for future vacationers.
If you stay here, you will truly enjoy yourself. It has solitude, but also gives you a relatively short drive to more urban amenities. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
This was our second time staying at the Calling Loon. We love it there! We enjoy the peacefulness and solitude of the property and all the amenities that it has to offer. The sunsets from the dock in the evenings are beautiful. The home was well stocked and very clean when we arrived. Hoping to return again next year!
This home offers ample room for large families, beautiful sunsets, well stocked kitchen, pool table and ping pong tables an added bonus. This home was also immaculately clean. Highly recommend!
This property was perfect for our family. Plenty of room, very well stocked, clean, great yard and beach area for the little ones and adults alike. We had trouble finding it initially, and it is further away from Acadia then we realized, but manageable. Beautiful location, great host, we had a wonderful first family trip to the Maine coastal area.
The property was immaculate when we arrived. Plenty of room for our entire family of 14. Not sure why the water is called a pond. The lake is large and very clean. We will book again in the future!
I've stayed at many rental houses throughout the years, and this by far has to be the best. The property was clean, extremely well equipped, and well thought out. The manager was communicative and pleasant to work with. Plus, the pictures on this site do not do it justice. It is far more beautiful in person. Can't wait to stay there again!
The house was beautiful and the outside setting on the lake was awesome. It is definitely a little remote and the last few miles could be tricky with a low sitting vehicle; but other than that, we had a great time. Kayaking on the lake and listening to the loons was just so relaxing. If we come back to Maine, this would definitely be a great option again.
This is our second vacation at this rental property. Both have been fabulous. The owners are wonderful to work with. The property is clean, very spacious and well equipped. The sunsets are beautiful and the stars are magnificent. We stood out on the deck and saw the most beautiful night sky. What we enjoy most about this property is the peacefulness and the calling of the loons at night.
The house was so beautiful! Was exceptionally clean & more well stocked than any VRBO house we have ever stayed in over the years. Enjoyed sitting on the dock listening to the lions & fishing. Caught a 4 pound smallmouth on very first cast & more white perch than I could count. Short trip to Bar Harbor & Schoodic point. It was a very quiet, peaceful & relaxing vacation. We would whole heartedly recommend this property & would not hesitate to book again for ourselves.
Wonderful home that is very well stocked with everything we needed. All pots and pans were high quality and good shape. The best stocked home of all we have rented Plenty of towels for 9 people. It is a remote location which is what we were looking for, very little boat traffic on the pond, very quite and peaceful. Nice little beach to access the water. Wonderful sunsets and calling loons. VRBO agent and owners very easy to work with. Highly recommend renting this home.
We really enjoyed the house and property. It was a little off the beaten path but the amenities far outweighed the difficulty of the dirt road. The house was spot on with a well equipped kitchen and spacious comfortable bedrooms. Every room was clean and spacious. The kids especially enjoyed the pool table in the lower level. The only draw back was the ferocious mosquitos which was no fault of the owner. All in all, a great vacation was had by all.
My family of 13 stayed in the beautiful lake home for a week. They had just about everything we needed in the kitchen. We loved the kayak and canoe, billiards and ping pong. The sunsets were beautiful. We did a big puzzle too since we did have rain most of the week. We were able to go to Acadia, the Lumberjack show, and a seal and lobster boat tour in Bar Harbor followed by ice cream for dinner! We did enjoy a couple dinners out, but really enjoyed the Lobster BBQ. They had the best lobster and blueberry pie.
