Great hotel with wonderful facilities. Food in the buffet was very good. We ate in the basilico restaurant once and that was excellent. Lots of other little restaurants around the premises. Pools were lovely and, despite the inevitable idiots getting up at 6 to back sun loungers, we always managed to find somewhere to sit.

The resort and staff were incredible! The facilities were well maintained, food onsite was great with a variety of restaurants and bars to choose from. Also super close to restaurants in surrounding area and a short 10 min drive from downtown Funchal with the convenience of a hop on hop off bus stop right at the resort! Highly recommended!

We had a wonderful vacation! The rooms, buildings, and pools were awesome! We ate out in town mostly but the breakfast buffet came in clutch on travel days and excursion days. It had a great selection and was pretty good. The only thing is the lunch options weren’t that great. They didn’t have a ton of Portuguese food options and I thought they would have poncha since it’s such a famous drink. But overall it was a wonderful stay and a wonderful vacation! I highly recommend!

Overall a lovely stay at the hotel. Breakfast was plentiful with loads of choice. Overall most of the staff were very friendly and welcoming. Reception could have been a bit more friendly sometimes but maybe they were having a bad day! Pools were great, lots of places to sunbath. Slightly annoying that people still place towels on their beds and don’t turn up till nearly mid day. Wish the hotel were more strict on it.

Location: Well situated for an easy 2km walk to old town. Great views from water facing rooms. Hotel: Large resort with great amenities and restaurants. Very quiet for a large property. Fabulous hotel in the most perfect location, amazing facilities, incredible staff. We came for a wedding and to catch up with family and friends . The food was outstanding for the wedding and breakfast and evening dinner, we booked half board and it was worth it. The pools and gardens were perfect and you have the public lido in front of the hotel which we highly recommend, you can snorkel in crystal clear waters. Special mentions to the pool cafe staff who were beyond welcoming, the food is fabulous and the cocktails too. The reception staff were also amazing , Mark, Maria, Phillipe some of the waiting staff, omelette chefs who are incredible at breakfast ....3 pans at a time and a huge queue because they are cooked to perfection. The rooms were kept clean and everything fresh daily. The walk to Funchal is 25 minutes downhill and local buses easily accessible . Do explore this beautiful island if you come here and do a madeira safari .

We love Porto Mare and have stayed a few times before. The facilities are great and the staff are very welcoming! The breakfast buffet is the BEST! This time we bought the three dinners at Atlantida restaurant, all of which we fab but the fish and seafood night was the highlight! Our room was clean and had a lovely view over the gardens We’ll be back in 2026 :)
