This picture was taken on Main Street in Galax, Va. These are fiddles that spell "Love" in four glass shadow boxes beside a music store called Barr's Fiddle Shop which has been in Galax for 40 years. Fiddles are one of the main instruments that mountain music is based on. When this music first started it was called hillbilly music which then later was called blue grass. When I saw this driving down Main Street, I knew that I wanted to take a picture of it because of the musical aspect and the history behind it. Because I have had a lot of experience of the Appalachian mountains, bluegrass is something that "characterizes a mountaineer", especially the older generation. This picture represents the love that mountain people have for this musical entertainment. This is shown through the annual Old Fiddlers Convention which occurs an entire week in August for the past 82 years. This event gathers thousands of people from all over the world who all share the love of Bluegrass. #appalachianechoes

The Blue Ridge Parkway connects Great Smoky Mountain National Park to Shenandoah National Park. It's 400+ miles offers one of the best ways to view the smokies and will give you stunning landscapes such as this one. The drive changes dramatically from one area to the next, so you can see all different kinds of mountain range.
This restaurant has been in Galax, Va for many years. They serve old fashioned burgers, hotdogs and milkshakes for cheap. I feel like this represents the Appalachia region because it represents community. Every time I have been in this restaurant, it feels like your home. Everyone is so kind and the people who are customers all know each other who are natives to Galax. I think that the the atmosphere of this drive in/dine represents the entire atmosphere that I have gotten from people in this region of the United States. People are always so kind to each other and make you feel like you belong no matter your background. #appalchianechoes

I love Galax. It is a very friendly, quaint town on the Appalachian Trail that I would recommend to everyone.
