We love to visit Hanalei and this property is Lovely in every way. Steps from the beach and a walk to town makes it a perfect location for us. The house was perfect - comfortable beds and everything we needed was there - kitchen, laundry and beach chairs, towels and umbrellas. We would love to stay here again someday!!
This is a wonderful property for anyone looking for easy access to surf or the beach and wanting to be able to walk to town for meals or shopping. The house is comfortable and has everything you need to cook all your meals. It was loved by all and we would return.
Really enjoyed our week at this property. Great views and proximity to beach, bay, and town. Nathan and Nanci were great and responsive. Highly recommend getting cruiser bikes for your stay as they are a great and fun way to get to town and back.
This is the guest house in the back of the main house on the beach. Every detail and design in and around the house are creative and comfy. The hosts thought of everything we could’ve might’ve or did need for our arrival and stay. It really is steps to the most beautiful perfect beach in the world. Sunsets. Rainbows. Crystal clear water. White sand. Easy waves. The only negatives. At the entrance to the beach park. Lots of traffic. Parking up and down the street. And broken beat up porta potties staring at you right of the master bedroom windows and pato. But great views forward….and overwhelming beautiful place. 5 star property. I would stay again for sure.
Our family of 4 (2 teenagers spent a week at this perfect spot. We alternated between chill days and active days and chilling days and were so comfortable for both. The location can't be beat. It is RIGHT on the beach which made everything feel so easy and mellow. It was so nice to be in a real town, not a resort complex. We walked to Hanarli's restaurants and grocery stores )and drive 2 mins when we didn't feel like walking). The hosts took care of every detail in the home. Plenty of supplies and kitchen items, and all sorts of extras, like spare toothbrushes. It was great to have beach gear and an outdoor shower. Gorgeous views! We were there during a warm week and it was a little hot downstairs. But not a big deal.
Overall our experience was great!
Pros: house was on Hanalei beach, which is one of the most beautiful beaches in Kauai.
Owner lives in house in front should there be an urgent need/difficult issue.
A/C in one bedroom.
Kitchen has everything one needs.
Sunset view from master balcony
Cons: The home is smaller than expected except for master bedroom which is ample. There is A/C in master bedroom, but not in downstairs areas-which for price of rental is a negative. I missed that detail in specs of listing.
Updates are needed for price of rental: Master shower has difficulty draining water and 2 inch pool of water was regular experience. Dryer has issues and spent hours trying to dry clothes. Beds in second bedroom have very uncomfortable mattresses (could use topper or new mattresses)
These cons would not be relevant if price was not 1K a night. Family also rented 2 other properties in area around 400 a night with one of these disadvantages (but only one). Def one pays for location-but also there is a public parking lot 30 feet from house.

You definitely don't get what you pay for
I usually book properties based on reviews, so I will try to be detailed, hoping this will help the next potential tenants.
Location: the plus is that you are very close to the beach...just behind the big main house on the property (no actual beach view), the negative is that the property is located right next to the public parking area that everybody uses when going to this beach. During the day - not an issue, but at night...oh my god! We stayed there for a week and every single night people had loud, very loud music there, they were racing up and down the street and creating extremely loud noises with their engines (older trucks with big mufflers, so it was crazy loud). There's a note in the house to call the police for this, but when we tried - they didn't care. Also, there's a lot of rosters running around, so be ready to get up around 4-5am every morning.
The house: very, very outdated. The pictures look way better. The couches downstairs are different than pictures - old, stained and just not pleasant to sit on. Pretty much all the walls in the house are dirty, covered with stains...definitely needs a new paint or major cleaning. The sheets and blankets are also old and smelled bad. It was cold at night and we had to use 3 separate throws since there were no actual blankets there. I guess the pillows would be personal preference, but for the 3 of us they seems so bad. We all had back and neck pain from the mattresses and pillows - just seems old and worn out. All the faucets and shower heads were white plastic - maybe not a big deal to somebody, but for the kind of money they're asking - I expected something a little better. The kitchen was so small that you can forget about coking a nice meal in there....just some quick breakfast maybe, but it's extremely small.
Overall - we were very, very disappointed with this property. You definitely don't get what you pay for.
Incredible location on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world a house with beautifully appointed gorgeous wood floors. lots of screened windows with fantastic views The kitchen was small, but perfect for what we needed absolutely loved the outdoor shower. The upstairs master suite bedroom was incredible. The views from the upstairs lanai at sunrise and sunset were spectacular. We enjoyed sitting out there every night after dinner and just enjoying the sound of the waves. The house is next to the beach parking lot but we really didn’t notice too much noise the master bathroom is fantastic with a soaking tub and a wonderful large shower , both the shower and tub have amazing views of Hanalei Bay Nathan, and Nanci were great hosts, and extremely helpful this house has such a perfect location close to Hanelei Town and right on Hanalei Bay Beach we enjoyed our time here so much that we are planning to return and we will definitely be booking this property again
Our family of four returned to Hanalei Bay not having been there in 12 years, and we were not disappointed. This guest house sits in an amazing location, just steps from what we consider the best beach on Kauai. The home is very comfortable and had enough room for our family. The Lanai upstairs is an amazing space for two to sit and enjoy the view of Hanalei Bay, the ocean, and the mountains. The home is also the closest rental to the Hanalei Pier, parking lot, and the canoe club, which bustles with activity from a lot of locals - which for our family made it feel like we were integrating with the local folks more so than you would at a big resort. There was a little noise but it wasn't a problem for us. The interior of the home was nicely appointed, the upstairs bedroom and bathroom were very nice and comfortable. The lower level was the same, with a small but functional kitchen. The AC upstairs works great but we only used it once during our stay, it really wasn't too hot while we were there with Hanalei's intermittent showers. We had a plumbing issue and the hosts responded quickly to resolve it. Highly recommended!!
What a fantastic location!!! Views and access to the beach were perfect. Could walk into Hanalei town or a very quick drive. Saw several rainbows from the beach - it was magical. Met the owners and they were very kind and repeatedly offered their assistance with anything. AC was welcome and needed on the second floor so we were very thankful for that unit. Views off the upper deck are better than shown. House had everything we needed. Hope to come back here some day! Mahalo!
This is a beautifully designed guest house; small but great for our family of 2 adults and 2 children. Can't imagine a more idyllic location in Hanalei. Thank you Nathan and Nanci.
It was relaxing, but not peaceful. It is right near a road that leads to the park and beach next door. It means there is a tremendous amount of car and foot traffic pretty much all day long and then at nite you always have the few that just do not want to go home when the park is closed.
Great rental home in popular Hanalei. The house is on the beach (just behind the main house), steps from one of the most beautiful places in the world. Everything you need is available for an easy and relaxing vacation and the home was spotless and well maintained. The hosts were very accessible, friendly and helpful. If you love Hanalei and want easy access to the beach and town without having to drive, this place is perfect!
We had an excellent stay at the Beach House! It had everything we needed from towels, beach chairs, an umbrella and boogie boards. We rented paddle boards and walked to Hanalei River to paddle with the sea turtles. The house was cozy and comfortable with a view of the ocean. Beds were comfortable, kitchen very functional, and it has a great outdoor shower. Walking along Hanalei Bay straight from the house was the ultimate! Thank you.
There is no better location than this beach house. It is a gem on the best beach in Kauai. You don't have to cross the street. The beach is right there.
I was at first concerned about our views being blocked with the main house (where the owners live) in front. But honestly you get great views everywhere. Even from the bathroom.
There were so many cute and convenient details that aren't even on the listing description but brought us a lot of enjoyment. For example:
1. Outdoor shower (we used this every day)
2. A foot wash faucet before entering the home.
3. Every beach toy you could need is stored on the first level (entitled "beach toys"). Includes umbrellas, sand castle building materials, mats, chairs, boogie boards, flotation devices. [Nathan , we donated 2 new boogie boards!]
4. The master bedroom is an absolute oasis with the most spectacular views.
5. The Italian stucco (very smooth) interior walls and the Italian windows/shutters gave the whole place an up-leveled vibe.
6. Even things like the clothing line in the shower and different kinds of coffee makers (regular drip and Kurig) was a nice touch.
But it wasn't overly curated. It felt like a home, not a museum.
And for the previous review that said the noise from parties outside was distracting... all that is gone since they took that parking lot away. There is now a grassy area next to the home that makes it lovely to walk onto as you're going to the beach.
They did a major remodel of the home and surrounding property in 2018 and it shows.
Finally, Hanalei Bay is THE location for photographers to take sunset pictures. It's hard to put into words how truly magical and beautiful this location really is. If you can swing it, get this house.
Fantastic location! Essentially right on the beach...Great views from upstairs balcony, walking distance to town for coffee, dinners, market, etc...can't wait for the next trip!
The location of this house is wonderful! The pier, great surf waves, and the river are steps or a short paddle away. There was occasional noise from the park next door, but sleeping to the sounds of the waves makes up for it. The house is small but beautiful and the master suite upstairs is lovely! Nathan and Nanci were great host and very helpful.
Our family traveled to Kauai shortly after Kauai rejoined Hawaii's Safe Travels Program, which allows visitors to avoid a quarantine if they have a negative COVID test prior to travel. Our travel experience was smooth, and Hanalei was the perfect destination for our family.
This house was ideal for many reasons. First of all, it was literally steps to the beach at Hanalei Bay right by the pier, as well as a very short drive to the businesses in town. Second, the house itself was very thoughtfully designed and well equipped. The house is small but still feels spacious and was just right for our family of four. We could see and hear the ocean from inside the house and still felt that we had ample privacy. Likewise we found everything we needed (kitchen equipment and utensils, bathroom amenities, beach gear, etc.) in excellent condition. The kind owners are on site in the main house and were responsive to questions by phone call or message both before and during our stay.
Honestly if it weren't for our dog back at home and the fortunate fact that our kids are in-person for school, we would have loved to stay forever.
Travelers should check Hawaii's as well as Kauai's travel guidelines for COVID, and (for at least the next several months) should also check accessibility to and around Hanalei as there are road repairs restricting vehicle access. Visitors who wish to visit Ke'e beach (at the end of the highway, at the beginning of the Kalalau trail) should also know that reservations are required.
