This is the first damn on the Pawtuxet River. This dam used to provide power to the mills seen in the far distance. The factory is sadly not in use and falling apart. There are plans to turn the buildings into apartments.

These falls once powered a set of mills in Hope. On the rocks just above the falls was a small house which controlled the rate of the water. That small house has long since disappeared. Also disappeared is the work which once went on in those mills. They are left empty. This is a popular fishing and kayaking spot.

Took a ride on the Coventry Greenway which is an old, disused railway converted to a bike path. This path has scores of old mills along it. The mill was built at the beginning of the textile industry era in New England, leading to strong economic ties with the Deep South, whose slave labor supplied the cotton. This mill was the last to operate in the villages of Coventry and is now being converted into condos.
