"The Rose and Crown is a little inn just above Porthcawl. It’s old, and charming, and the rooms are in need of a little bit of updating—-new carpet would go a long way! But the beds were very comfortable, it met our needs, and the staff were incredibly kind and helpful. We had a light dinner there, and it was delicious."

"Our rooms had a lovely ( unexpected) sea view but as I found out on arrival, most if not all rooms, (other than accessibility/disability rooms) have a shower over the bath, so it wasn’t ideal for my 84yr old mother who doesn’t require an accessible room as she doesn’t have any disabilities or restrictions per se but can’t climb into the bath to take a shower. It is very unusual for a hotel these days to have baths in every room but the hotel was fully booked for a conference so unfortunately there was no option to change rooms to an accessible room for her. The restaurant was closed for a function the night we arrived, This was a Monday night in a small seaside town at the beginning of March so I wasn’t hopeful - but we found 3 great places to eat within a few mins walk. A really lovely seaside cafe/restaurant, an Indian and an American/Mexican type restaurant. The hotel was clean, staff were lovely and it was ideal for our stay. Don’t be put off by the 1970’s exterior. We didn’t go further than the seafront so not sure about a ‘town’ but there are retail parks nearby. "
