The outside looked pretty bad but the room itself was pretty good nice and recently renovated it was nice a/c was good the only thing I had a problem with was the amount of traffic coming into the 3rd floor woke up like 4 times but the bed was nice and the shower as well. Not a bad stay for one night and it’s also around every thing. Plus the staff was really nice there

This historic hotel needs extensive work .. hallways dirty , boarded up windows etc. Room was modern and clean but elevator not working. It appears in October the city will take it over. When restored it will be amazing.

I stayed for 2 nights and enjoyed it. The hotel is under renovations so no elevator. But a/c worked great in the room and my room was fully renovated with everything being new. It was a great experience for me and my partner overall and I loved the covered indoor parking in downtown kenora!

To be fair, the room was quite good, recently updated and clean. The pictures on the website did really reflect the condition of the hotel. Again, to be fair it is an old building and the new owners are slowly trying to fix it up but they have a long ways to go. Building security is quite good despite the current state. We wish then well in their efforts to bring the building back, it has the potential to become an attractive boutique hotel. I expect back in its glory days it was quite a desireable place to stay

The hotel was under renovation when I arrived. But walked up to the room and discovered a beautiful view and clean room. However the elevator was not working so I had to walk up 2 floors. The place was a gem.

As others have mentioned the hotel is under renovation. The rooms are completely redone and up to date. If you have problem with stairs this is not the place for you as the elevator is not in service. The garage is secure, if a little unconventional. Manual operation of the door. I would stay there again.

Felt very secure. We did not use the underground parking. They were renovating - so no elevator but the rooms were excellent & quiet. Needed key to get to our floor, & to get into the hotel, etc. The restaurant attached closed at 8, so we got take out- very tasty. As we were late in arriving, we had to go to the restaurant folks to get access. I think there was a phone # on the front door, but being tired & elderly - we missed that. Staff was very accomodating & delivered the coffee pods within 5 min of request. Air conditioning was good. The stairs were clean, but very worn. It is a heritage spot- so very old & shows much of its age. The lobby wil be fantastic when they are finished, I expect.

I had read a terrible review and I was worried I had made a mistake. However, in spite of the urban decay on the street, the renovated lobby and excellent staff member who checked me in made me feel better. The hotel is being renovated and the halls and stairs look like hell. But, the room was air conditioned and newly, beautifully renovated. So if you can look past the growing pains, the room was fantastic. All doors have key cards, so security was of no concern, and my car was safe in the locked underground parking.

Hotel under renovation so no elevator to third floor. 84 year old husband had to drag cases up 37 steps. A little cheaper than other available lodging but comes with some drawbacks. Room was clean and well appointed but air conditioner loud.

To start the room itself was clean, recently renovated & the beds comfortable. Unfortunately the hotel overall was very run down & unkept. While it does state in the listing there is no elevator, all the rooms are on on the second &btird floors & only the stairs to the second floor were carpeted, the ones to the third were raw wood & rough. The parking garage was very small & a challenge to access, and quite a few spots were marked as unavailable & full of junk. Overall I would not recommend this hotel especially considering the price.

Okay so the thing you have to understand is that the Kenricia (a historic hotel) is under extensive renovations, presently the elevator was not functioning and few rooms were available. It is also a very old building with creeky tall staircase, construction sites, boarded off sections and the historic scent of the bygone smoking in doors era. The staff were forthright and offered a refund but as it A) had secure parking B)a good price and c ) the room itself was very clean and newly renovated (if the building itself still has the scent.) it is in the heart of downtown Kenora which has its own 'charm' but we enjoyed both nearby pubs, sat by the waterfront, went dancing and played pool. Give the Kenricia a chance, it's sketchiness was charming and I truly can't wait to see what it looks like after the renovations when it has been brought back to life (however long that takes.) 10/10.

To be fair it is under renovations. The room we stayed in was CLEAN and nice however there was no hot water at night and no cold water in the morning and no air conditioning. Also there is no bolt on the door (which is alarming for solo female travellers) it was also very apparent that on the event of a fire everyone was going to die. No windows to open and no easy stair accesss.

The hotel was locked when we arrived, with a phone number on the front door to call if we wanted access. It took less than a minute once we called. Elevator was not working. We were supposed to have a room on the 3rd floor, the man at the desk told us we could cancel without penalty, but we kept the reservation when offered to have a room on the 2nd floor and after seeing the room. Room was very old but clean, beds were comfortable. Portable air conditioning was efficient. We could hear the people above us moving stuff around for a while once we got in bed, but the night was quiet. Hotel has a private parking with non automated door, but we did not use it as we had a spot on the side with no parking fees on Sunday. All that being said, I would probably book here again since the price is so low compared with other hotels in Kenora. When the renovations are done, this could be a nice place.

The rooms were nice. The single staff member was as helpful as he could be. But the air conditioner was a portable machine that didn't keep the room cool. When we checked in, a staff member said the hotel was under renovation and that we could cancel our reservation. This was a Friday evening in the height of the tourism season. We should have been informed weeks before we arrived. The hallway smelled strongly of feces and urine. On the Saturday afternoon of our stay, there was animal feces in the hallway. It wasn't large, but it wasn't sanitary. Also, there is very little parking for the hotel. If you have a small vehicle, they have indoor parking. Though if you have a SUV or a Truck, there is an area behind the hotel that is owned by another company in which you are allowed to park if not in use. All other parking in downtown Kenora is paid parking with a two-hour limit. This hotel is VERY OVERPRICED!

My review is similar to many here. The property is in the midst of a renovation. The rooms they rent are all completely renovated, clean and comfortable. But as yet, there is no elevator. My room was on the 3rd floor. The hallways were clear, but it’s clearly a construction zone. The parking was secure, but a bit unconventional. Your key card unlocks the door, then you have to slide it open, drive in, and close it behind you. But it was nice to have my car warm and secure.

No hot water in the shower. No window that can open in the bedroom ( heat accumulates ) Fridge making a very loud intermittent high pitch noise ( had to disconnect it ) TV was not set up, I had to look at cables the wall and the system to make it work. The metal plate in the front door was not screwed in, I had to screw them myself for the door to function had intended. They are renovating, but they should not rent a room like this. They should give a partial refund, it does not deserve to be charged full price. On the positive end, the guy at the front desk was very nice and helpful, the room itself was clean and the sheets were clean, the room itself has been renovated so it’s nice and modern.

Positive: The beds were fine, AC was good, and the price was the cheapest in town. Negative: No working elevator - We had to drag all our luggage up 3 flights of stairs. The stairs had a strong sour smell like urine - they are very old wood. Pretty sure there was a puddle of pee in the shower but cannot confirm as I immediately sprayed it away and did not smell it. Parking was available in a sketchy garage that was awkward to maneuver (requires manual door operation, and does not directly connect to the hotel - We had to exit the garage with all of our luggage and walk around the corner to the hotel entrance). Front desk has limited hours, there was a sign with a phone number to call to check-in after hours but staff was slow to respond, and a hotel resident buzzed me into the building. (The hotel serves low-income long-term local residents. These folks were fine, we had no problems with noise or anything else. Note: The city of Kenora will be taking over the hotel in November 2026 and all residents will need to move, there will likely be major building renovations then.)

We had a good stay at the Kenricia Hotel while travelling with my son. The hotel is still undergoing some renovations, but our room was completely renovated and felt nice and new. The room was generally clean, although the floor could have been cleaned a little better. The staff were friendly and helpful, and parking was convenient. The air conditioning worked well, which was especially nice during our stay. Overall, we had a good experience and would stay here again.
