There aren’t a ton of options in this area and we stayed here to be close to Vatnajökull. The hotel was very quiet and everyone there was nice. When we arrived we were originally in two rooms with only a view into a row of other rooms, but since we checked in on the earlier side they were kind enough to move us to rooms with a South view. But on our way to our room the person cleaning rooms told us to keep our windows closed because of insects. This made them really hot at night. Additionally when we first entered the windows had been open and there were a bunch of small non-biting bugs that looked like mosquitoes in the room.
We ate at the hotel for dinner one night - it was very good but on the pricey side. The following night we ate at Systrakaffi and it was excellent for the price - easily half the cost of the hotel restaurant. Breakfast at the hotel had plenty of options, including some nicer choices of cheeses, smoked fish, and eggs and bacon - a great way to fuel up for a day of activities on and around the glacier.
