Shangri-La Rasa Ria, Kota Kinabalu

"A very well appointed hotel to relax and explore Sabah, Borneo. The staff could not be more personable and attentive, which transformed our experience and made it very special for our break. The breakfast is plentiful and well arrayed, covering Asian and Western Cuisine. The pool side lunch is reasonable in offering, and while we did not opt for dinner, the choice of restaurants were ample for a 4 night stay. The garden wing room was well sized for a family, and the housekeeping staff have thought of all the needs for modern travel. The location is about a 45 minute drive from the airport and the main city, which did not affect our needs but some might find a bit remote. The adjoining rasa ria reserve was quite special and the choice of activities on offer is fantastic. The daytime entertainment at the poolside is really good. With fond memories, we would definitely comeback."

"The Borneo Beach Villa is an incredible value! The South China Sea is beautiful, clear and clean!! The villa is as pictured though with some wear and tear - though still lovely and spacious. We stayed in a unit with its own pool that was on the beach.The staff was very responsive. I would recommend renting a car if you are not too intimidated by driving on the left."

"This property and its surroundings were beautiful. We genuinely had the beach to ourselves which felt very special. The host had furnished and stocked the property to make it comfortable and there was the added bonus of paddle board, snorkeling gear and games too.We had hired a 4x4 and the drive was definitely an experience, however, the cleaner and groundsman were always on site and happy to take us should we need it.We also went scuba diving with Bigfin, who picked us up by boat and we spent a memorable day discovering reefs locally.The description of serene was accurate and I will never forget the views!Bring mosquito protection."
