River Valley Cabin

Thornwood is an exclusively private 9 acre estate located in the heart of "God's Country" in Lansing,  Iowa. The Thornwood Estate offers beautiful scenery and provides the best nature-filled escape. It is located just 4 miles from the Mississippi River. This property features 3 separate buildings that can be rented for everyone to enjoy together while allowing for ample spacing. Short walking trails are also located around the property for your enjoyment. The Thornwood Estate would be a great secluded event venue for a small wedding celebration or a family reunion. 
The main house is beautifully appointed with custom oak cabinets and accents with impeccably detailed woodwork. The main house offers 3 spacious master bedrooms, all with gorgeous views of the landscape. 2 separate loft rooms are found on the 3rd floor in the main house that will allow for more beds to compliment your stay. This property is perfectly equipped with everything you need to feel at home during your stay; kitchen pots/pans/utensils, fresh linens, brand-new flat screen TVs in the living area spaces, as well as a washing/drying machine. 
There is also a cabin that is also available to rent, with an additional charge. NOTE: There may be guests also staying at that cabin, at the same time of your stay.

Thornwood cabin is a beautifully wood-crafted space that is easily accessible from the main driveway. This cabin offers a small living area, equipped with a small kitchen, as well as a loft that includes a queen-sized bed. It provides a private space within very close proximity to the main living quarters.

Amazing Trip!

This was a perfect place for our family Fall trip! It was peaceful and the scenery was absolutely beautiful. So many things to do in Lansing and surrounding towns. I highly recommend.

Great place to stay!

We stayed at Jane and John’s place for my parents 50th. We really enjoyed the house! Plenty of room for our group of 11. Owners were very helpful and went above and beyond to make sure we had a great stay. Would highly recommend to bigger groups wanting to explore the Mississippi River and surrounding area!!

secluded get away with the Mississippi just minutes away

The property was very clean. It is great for a large group. Our teenagers loved having the gaming systems. There was a nice firepit area that we didn't get the chance to use, next time! It is a lovely location and the owner was responsive to any questions we had.

Lovely family reunion location

Our family reunion group of 28 used this property for home base (we rented another vacay home as well). This gorgeous home was a fantastic setting to all gather, from the well appointed and gorgeous kitchen to the fire pit up on the hill. And two refrigerators - GENIOUS! Top notch accommodations and just overall a blessing to us all. Thank you!

Great Property Near River

Large group of guys for an ice fishing weekend on the Mississippi River. Great space and layout with kitchen and entertaining area on ground floor. Well appointed; worked great for our group. Plenty of parking Communications with owner clear and concise. Will rent again when we come back to Lansing for fishing.

Jensen Wedding/ Family Reunion 2023

We had a little backyard family get-together/small wedding and the cabin was perfect! Large enough to hold our family plus some more family who rented out the small cabin on the property and a camper! We had enough room to put a tent up for our reception and plenty of room for parking! We will definitely being coming back, we couldn't of asked for a better place or better owners, Jane and her husband are lovely people and so easy to get along with and who went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we could of possibly needed. Honestly, I still can't get over how perfect this weekend was!

Wonderful memories

We had a great time during our stay! Far enough off the beaten path for quiet relaxation but close enough to the things we wanted to do. We were able to be the central hub for our family members to start our daily adventures. We had plenty of space even with four kids and four adults - never felt cramped. The entertainment/gaming room was a huge hit with dvds and games for all ages to enjoy. The nature trail they have on property was great for our little explorers too! We are already trying to find when we can come back to stay. Everything we or anyone could need plus things you don’t even think about. Just a great time spent with family and friends. Thanks so much!!

One of the cleanest VRBOs we have ever stayed in!! Plenty of room for everyone. The little ones loved the large front yard and we could watch them from the balcony porch. The loft space was their favorite spot! Lots of things to do in the surrounding towns. We LOVED this place!

Wonderful spot!

We rented the property to host an anniversary dinner and have a space for friends and family to gather. We couldn't have been happier. The property is beautiful, well maintained and easy to access. Communication was excellent.

The large cabin is beautiful! Bathroom on every floor definitely was a plus. Only thing we will do differently in the future is renting the cottage as well lol be nice for the grand parents on a family reunion to have a place to step away from the grandkids! 10/10 would recommend and will use again in the future

Cousins Weekend

This was a great place for us to have our cousins weekend! The cottage was a great size for our group, we had plenty of room. Definitely could host a large family or friends weekend. We enjoyed the dry creek bed and the surrounding paths. Only thing I wpuld suggest is a step stool for us short people. Highly recommend a stay!

One of the best places we have ever stayed at

If you are looking for a family get away or a place to meet up with friends for the weekend, this is the place! The owners were so accommodating to everyone and they were so easy to get ahold of! The house had everything you'd possibly need and the fire pit was AMAZING! We couldn't recommend this place enough. Such an amazing experience!!!

Perfect stay for multi-family gathering

We had a group of 10 adults and 1 teenager and it was the perfect house for our gathering. The house is 3 floors with plenty of beds and rooms for all of us. There was an area on the third floor for the young adults to play games. The house was spotless and had everything we could need. I would highly recommend this house for large family gatherings.

Clean fun stay

Really liked this place and property. Plenty of beds for everyone and well equipped kitchen. Clean and lots of bedding and blankets. Only small challenge was a slow dishwasher and the request to have all dishes clean dry and put away before checkout. Would prefer to start a dishwasher load just before checking out.
