Grannies House - Where Comfort and Relaxation Happens

@grannies. house is found in the heart of the village of Machico. From cafes to supermarkets and local bakeries, all within a 5-minute walk. Fresh sea air hovers through the village as it is also just a 5-minute walk past most restaurants and cafés. Grannies house has been renovated to 3 graceful levels by grandchildren Julio and Paulo Nobrega. The ground floor is the main entrance which is received with a short flight of stairs (the large garage is also on this level and is spacious enough to store bicycles and much more sports equipment for sports enthusiasts). Once on the first floor there is a spacious open plan dining room and TV room. Ample space to relax or enjoy lunch or dinner. On the other side of the passage are the 3 bedrooms with queen beds that are easily converted to single beds if required. The master bedroom has its own bathroom. The kitchen is also on this level where you have everything needed to prepare your own meals. (Straight from the freezer or fridge to the oven or stove). The kettle and microwave are ready to be used to prepare your meals. The laundry room is next to the kitchen equipped with a washing machine, ironing board and iron. Up another flight of stairs is the quaint Loft room with a lounge with a sofa bed and a bathroom. All our rooms are well ventilated and spacious. Grannies house really offers everything needed for a home while still feeling like you are on vacation. Brothers Julio and Paulo Nobrega invite you to come and stay at Grannies House and see the village of Machico where everyone is friendly and relaxed, tranquility at its best. Use Grannies House as your home away from home and explore the beauty that Madeira Island has to offer.

Comfortable stay except...

The property was fine but the location had issues. It was 1 block away from a church with loud bells that rang on the hour (except for nighttime) plus other times that seemed like it might have been a bell-ringer in training??? One evening we were unable to return to the property due to a church event where police had blocked off entry to the entire area. Due to a huge turnout, there was no parking available within walking distance of the property so we spent the evening in nearby Santa Cruz. Had we been warned, we would not have left the property that day. I thought cleanliness was OK but my 2 female friends freaked out over the huge cockroaches so I promised I'd mention it. I suggest you make sure you have the correct number of guests when making a reservation. Our guest count increased from 2 to 3 when a Portuguese-speaking friend agreed to join us. I was advised in advance that this would cause the price to increase by 20 euros/day which was requested in cash or bank transfer outside of VRBO. This didn't sound right so I checked with VRBO who said they don't allow payment directly to the owner. The owner then submitted the charge to VRBO and I paid VRBO using my credit card (instead of cash to the owner). This was the only reservation that increased the price due to the additional person (we stayed in 3 different properties during our Portugal trip). The other 2 property owners graciously said there was no change in price for the additional person.

Best place in Machico

We were so happy to find this little gem in the heart of Machico. It’s close to everything - the beach, restaurants, coffee shops and supermarkets. There was enough room for 3 families. The house was so clean and had enough supplies for our holidays. The best part though was Dina, the house manager, who was so kind and welcoming. She was always available to answer question organize taxis for us. If you want a newly renovated home in a great location, this is the place to stay.

Superbe maison qui possède tout le confort nécessaire et des grands espaces pour passer un excellent séjour. Dina nous a réservé un accueil des plus sympathiques - discrétion et disponibilité - Un parking privé pour deux voitures est un vrai plus. la plage est à 100 métres, comme les supermarchés. Je recommande sasn soucis.

Fantastic holiday home

Firstly i would like to say thank you to Dina for all the efforts she went to make sure that we had an amazing time at Grannies House. She was very helpful when we needed her. The house is really nice, modern and spacious. Very central in Machico city surrounded with everything u need at your door step. The beach is a small walk from the house and u have a choice of pebble beach or sandy beach.The bakery just outside the house in the building is a must to get fresh cooked bread and Portuguese cakes. We looked forward to have breakfast every day because of tha bakery. There is plenty of space in the house and having 3 toilets was really good. I highly recomend this house for anyone that wants to be in the heart of Machico. Dina was an amazing host to us. She will definitely make sure you have a pleasant stay at Grannies House.

Amazing

We stayed in this beautiful house and we were extremely happy with everything. It is soooo fresh, clean and tidy. Its so big and well equipped. The house is very well Located, you are literally 2 min walk from the beach. Thank you Dina for such a warm welcome and for being available 24/7. We loved meeting you and will be back next year for sure. I couldn’t recommend this house enough.
