The Lion Inn was one of the most charming Inn's I have stayed in. The rooms are charming- you approach yours as if it is your own little cottage. Inside, they are cheerful and bright and have the latest in sleeping accommodations and amenities. The staff is so friendly and helpful. The pub is wonderful, The cuisine is delicious and contemporary, and the servers are lovely and efficient. The Inn is located near the Grade I church of St. Oswalds, -a two-minute walk away. I stay there every time to visit and plan on doing it again.

🏨 Hidden gem alert! 🍽️ Just spent a couple of days at The Lion at Malpas and what a find. Beautiful rooms, fantastic food, and great attention to detail throughout. From the comfortable accommodation to the incredible meals, everything was spot on. If you’re looking for a relaxing stay with amazing food, this place is well worth a visit. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Wonderful stay and a lovely room. Had breakfast both morning - delicious though service was a bit slow and had to go ask for buffet table to be replenished - could ba bit more attentive. Had evening meal both nights and food was delicious and excellent service

Generally the rooms are to a high standard. The breakfasts are excellent, and the staff really friendly. Easy car parking. Only quibble is that we tried to book another 2 day stay, the system didn’t allow this - wanted 3 or more: this may vary with time of year.

Liked the garden, but it needs a little C&A... Disabled car parking near to our room (No.5) was an excellent bonus. Breakfast was excellent but a bit expensive. Staff were all very courtious and helpful. Direct booking rather than via an agency is preferred. We will certainly be recomending the Lion to our friends and relations and using you again next time we are in the area. The only down sude was the loss of my credidit card - was is handed in to you?? Dennis Cole

Aside from a member of staff called Kane who was exceptionally helpful, our experience for a birthday break was beyond disappointing. We initially stayed at the sister property The Swan in Tarporley where staff were outstanding but at The Lion we were greeted in what can only be described as very patronising, unwelcoming and brusque, by who we understand to be Beth. We were shown to a room that was classed as executive but had clearly had a major leak in the bathroom as paint was peeling away from the walls and the underfloor heating was inoperable making the bathroom very cold when using the shower. WiFi was very poor and kept going off and due to an event in the venue we were told on arrival that as we had not booked for dinner the only choice was early at 17:30 or later at 20:30 do residents are being placed secondary to events in spite of paying to stay. Surely someone could have emailed or called to ascertain if planning ti book dinner. We are over the road was in what turned out to be an outstanding restaurant. Kane tried to help us with our broken underfloor heating and unfortunately our first two nights at The Swan sister property the room was freezing cold and when the staff moved us the toilet flush did not work and the shower was broken too. These properties clearly have major issues with plumbing/maintenance. Staff very slow and indifferent at the Lion ( except for Kane who was of the high professional standard expected )
