Spectacular location but spread over 3 buildings so quite a trek to the dining room if you're old or infirm. Food and service good. Accommodation itself OK but nothing special e.g. no bath mats, not much heating, noise from room above simply from them walking around. Overall, overpriced I think.
The location was absolutely stunning! The photos online are fab but they honestly don't do the cottage justice! Myself and my husband came to stay for 1 night for a relaxing time away from our young children and my goodness we were relaxed! The location was clean, quiet and the perfect spot for us who like to walk. We walked to the beacon of Malvern Hills and navigating to the top from the cottage was easy! Such a fantastic stay and would definitely recommend to anyone.
I made this booking then had to ring to make an amendment - the staff couldn’t have been more helpful. When we arrived I was amazed by the view and thought he location of the hotel. The whole experience was first class - definitely worth the visit
Surprised to find the Cottage in the Wood far from a cottage but wasn’t disappointed. The dwellings spread over three buildings with the restaurant and small bar area situated with the main reception. Due to the time of year and the weather we were unable to take in what would have been spectacular views. The room was lovely a cosy, clean with comfortable decor. The highlight of our stay was our fantastic taster menu on our first night. Fantastic cuisine and luckily you don’t have to stay there to dine there! We will definitely return in the summer months to experience the views and the surrounding area in better weather.
Room was nice, great views. Dinner (in the bar) was tasty but tiny ( 1x cod fish cake, prawns, with one floret of cauliflower divided in 3 and a few bean sprouts) I ended up ordering cheese for dessert to fill up, but that was also minuscule. Pricey too given the quantity. Staff all very pleasant and trying hard. They’ve scraped the breakfast buffet for ’starters’, juices etc, so you are served, the salmon scrambled eggs was nice. A low point was two small pots of jam being put on the table when toast was delivered. Overall just felt a bit mean.
The hotel is in a great location over looking the Three Counties Showground.
Room was comfortable, decor was quite dark with midnight blue paint all round the room.
We and others over the two days had to contend with a party of 12-14 people (of a certain age) at Breakfast who were very loud and would not stop talking over each other, even when eating, which spoilt it for those who wanted a quieter experience with other hotel residents who were sat in the breakfast room. This also happened with the evening meal where most of the tables were put together limiting others the opportunity to sit and have a quieter meal with their loved ones.
Other than the entitled people noted above the hotel was a great experience and would venture back but will check to see if there were big parties of people staying.

Saved from a 5 out of 10 by the views and the food
Location and view is amazing and the food at dinner excellent. I understand why some people have complained about the lack of choice as it is either 3 courses or testing menu so if you only wanted 2 courses tough. But the 3 courses we ate were delicious.
We were late booking a room for a Saturday night and got the last room, No:36, which does not have the amazing views, it is looking at the cliff wall and car park, so it's dark and gloomy, made more so by the very odd and poor lightning.
Given the price the room is sparsely provisioned: no coffee machine just instant, no dressing gowns, no slippers.
And the sink is chipped and cracked, and there is a strange tapping noise when other rooms are running their taps.
They have tried to update the room but haven't quite finished, i.e. mismatched piece of brown furniture in amongst the newer 'Ikia' style items.
On the outside the whole place looks tired. It needs a full refresh: flower beds need weeding, the buildings all need painting (looking like they had that damp green and black mold growing on the walls), gutters blocked with plants growing in them etc.
The view is the star…but it may be one of the few!
Good on some levels. A little lacking in others. I really wanted to give this a five star review as it feels like it should have..but…
Just a few little touches make it not ‘5 star’ ( at least not for me).
I’ve stayed in many hotels and B & Bs and this should be in the top ten.
The room was perfectly nice - although the sofa to take in the view was a little incongruous for me and a period armchair would be more fitting, although obviously only one person could then sit.
Actually from the angle only one person could take in the view from room 30 anyway!
It’s very thoughtful to have binoculars in the rooms - and tea making facilities. Although if you are going to provide this maybe provide milk or cream also?
And a few small biscuits maybe? I’ve even stayed in chain hotels which do this.
Small things matter…
(To be fair they did provide milk, and the biscuits when they picked up my initial comments to Hotels.com).
The biggest issue I had with the room was the shower. Hotel showers sometimes take a little working out, but they really shouldn’t.
No one is going to complain about an over explanation of how the shower/works.
It is literally different everywhere.
I don’t want to spend more time making the shower work than showering!
And why would you have a different temperature control between the handheld and the overhead shower?!
Unfortunately no space for the restaurant- but I do recommend staff check to see if a customer’s food is all ok after serving.
Such a beautiful place. Food really nice but bar maths are small and restaurant is Taster or Dinner menu so expect A la Carte cusine at a premium. Exceptional service in a beautiful setting. Would we go again. 100%.
