"Considering that this hotel has only been open 3 weeks the staff have done an excellent job. A few shortcomings that we were told would be corrected within the next 7-10 days (Limited draught beer and no breakfast option to name but 2) did not distract from service provided. Large room with a jacuzzi bath and awesome view of the grounds. Exceptional staff, nice bar and restaurant area (the steak pie is a must try), lovely gardens and close to the motorway for your overnight stop. Will we stop here again...... in a heartbeat"

"A real hidden gem 💎 ✨️ It's a little off the beaten track when choosing a break in the lakes but 100% worthwhile! You don't feel like just another guest, there's a real warmth and a genuine desire to make your stay at Hunday truly memorable. Recently refurbished rooms are both beautiful and practical 😍 food is fabulous and reasonably priced .We couldn't rate the Hunday higher! All 5 stars 🌟"

"My room was clean and tidy when I arrived. The lady on reception was very helpful and efficient when I checked in. On leaving the next morning the two staff were again very pleasant even though it was 3.30am."

"Great location at the heart of Carlisle and close to cathedral and castle, perfect for sightseeing. Lovely to stay in a historic hotel that’s beautifully maintained and looked after. Gorgeous high ceilings, stained glass, marble and wood panelling, so much better than modern hotels where everything is plastic. Perfect for a weekend break."

"As a first time visitor to the Borrowdale Gates Hotel I have to say what a wonderful experience. The location was perfect with access to many hiking trails. The staff were pleasant and very attentive to our needs, the facilities including the restaurant were excellent, serving very high quality food. After spending several days at the Hotel I am convinced we will be returning. From two happy customers."
