Hard to separate the charm of Montalcino from that of our hotel and staff but this hotel and staff would have stood out in any location. Our suite was elegant and spacious situated in the heart of Montalcino's many shops and cafés. The staff made us feel like family they were hosting, always gracious, never mercenary. It felt a bit like staying at a friends beautiful home with the butler and staff remaining to attend to our needs. The food was delicious, artfully and graciously presented. Our stay included a free small group private tasting and tour of the Tassi winery, founded by the hotel owner's grandfather (who was himself a sharecropper for the Brunello-founding Biondi Santi family). If we could only ever revisit one place in our Italian tour, I think we'd choose this one. Five stars all around.
