"The rooms were beautiful. We had the family room which consisted of 2 adjoining rooms. Each had a king size bed and seating area plus own bath with shower and one with shower and bath. Very spacious, clean and overall excellent room for a family of 4+."

"Staff was welcoming, friendly and helpful. Atrium is amazing. Location right on the Rhine, near the old city and walking zone. Room was very clean. Some items are dated. Fitness center is small and basic but enough to get a workout done. Nice little pool, sauna and steam room. The Belvedere restaurant is very nice with wonderful views of the Rhine and the church. We enjoyed our stay and would return."

"### Beautiful Hotel, Excellent Service, but Breakfast Was Disappointing We stayed at the Excelsior Hotel Ernst during our visit to Cologne in October 2026 and overall had a very enjoyable stay. From the moment we arrived, the hotel felt like a true five-star property. The staff were extremely professional and attentive, and the level of service throughout our stay was excellent. Our room was spacious, luxurious and spotless. The location is also hard to beat, right beside Cologne Cathedral and within easy walking distance of everything we wanted to see. The one disappointment was breakfast. For a hotel of this standard, we expected much better. When we arrived for breakfast, the hostess didn't fully explain how everything worked, which made the experience a little confusing. The service was also not particularly attentive, and the selection and food quality were below what we would expect from a five-star hotel, especially given the price. To their credit, they did a great job accommodating my wife's celiac disease, which we really appreciated. Overall, this is a beautiful hotel with exceptional service and an unbeatable location. It's certainly not inexpensive, but we felt the quality of the accommodations and service justified the price. Unfortunately, breakfast really let the experience down and was the main reason we couldn't give it five stars. Would we stay again? Possibly, although we'd probably look at other breakfast options next time."

"We booked a premium room and we asked to be put in a room that over looks the train tracks at the back, the person on reception said no problem but when we got to room we were looking out the front. It's not a big deal but if no rooms available just say, don't lie"

"The room and the staff are great! Just a few issues with the room: - Air Con was not working throughout our stay. Because we were in a family room, there was only 1 other room available which also didn’t have working air con. We even called ahead to check the air con was working and were informed it was. - Our shower gel was empty upon arrival and had to ask 3 times for new shower gel. - The sliding door to the bathroom had an opening which meant everyone in the room could see straight to the toilet. Not ideal for 3 mates sharing a room! - The car park is extortionate (€25 per night). Park in the multi-story at the end of the road which is cheaper (€16 per night)."
