This location is beautiful and the hotel was amazing! Only downfall is everything is accessed by stairs which is hard with heavy suitcases.

Property fine, staff generally good. Expensive. Room had marks all over floor ( needs vax) parking facilities poor. £4.50 for 1/2 cup of coffee is not good value. Rooms are too full of chairs etc , not required. Obviously throw to back of hotel to make room for Americans so they spend more .

The lift was not functioning but stay did bring bags to the room. A challenge with older hotel infrastructure is that many many step are required to get to a room. No lift meant 40 steps up and 40 steps down.

Initial impressions not good. I knew no parking on site, but drop off area chaotic. Steps to entrance and more steps and long way to lift (not sure how disabled would cope.) However staff friendly, room ok. Comfortable bed, decent breakfast and nice views of bay outside

It was comfortable and the dinner and breakfast was lovely. We had a dog and while the hotel was welcoming, our room was a very long way from the exit and also very small to accommodate a dog crate. Parking at the hotel is non existent unless you pay £20 per night for valet parking, which for a 4* hotel is unacceptable. In addition, the check-in process was painfully slow. Only one person on the desk and dozens of visitors waiting. The restaurant staff were mostly very nice, but some were quirky and over-familiar. Not a great impression for a 4* hotel. There is an amateurish feel about the Oban Bay Hotel. It trades on its seafront position along with many other similar mid-range hotels aspiring to 4* and falling short. It might have been once- not any more.

Short break

We really enjoyed our 2 day break in this hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel itself is lovely and spotlessly clean. The veiws from the lounge are beautiful. My only disappointment was the breakfast, everything else was perfect.

I spent two nights in the Oban Bay Hotel - it’s in a beautiful location overlooking the sea front which is ideal for watching all the ferries coming and going. The staff were all helpful and friendly with a good sense of humour. The breakfasts were excellent and the French toast, bacon and maple syrup with the addition of vanilla ice cream was certainly a first for me and surprisingly delicious!! I would happily return for another break in the future.

A nice hotel made better by its staff. Wonderful welcome and assistance on where to park and how to avoid the stairs with luggage. Everyone was very pleasant. Kimberly, at the spa, gave a fantastic deep tissue massage. When told that she should teach massage—she informed us that she does, at a local college. We loved our stay here.

The car park area was a little remote and we didn’t feel it was a secure place to leave the car. The hotel itself was good and everywhere was very clean. Breakfast was included in the price which we didn’t know about (good news!) and there was a wide selection of great sounding food on the menu. Service was good and staff were friendly.

reat Location, But Needs Attention to Detail

The Oban Bay Hotel has a fantastic location—stunning views, easy access to the waterfront, and within walking distance of the town’s best attractions. For that alone, it’s a convenient choice for exploring Oban. However, our recent family stay revealed some serious housekeeping and maintenance issues. Stained carpets, worn furniture, and a general lack of upkeep in rooms and common areas made the stay feel less comfortable than expected. For a hotel with such potential, a refresh in cleanliness and maintenance would go a long way. Additionally, while the reception staff weren’t outright rude, they often seemed indifferent or unengaged, even when approached politely (as our family always did). A warm smile, proactive assistance, and basic customer service training would significantly improve the guest experience. Hospitality is about making people feel welcome, and that starts with friendly, attentive staff. With some investment in upkeep and staff training, this could be a truly lovely hotel. As it stands, the location is its strongest asset—but the rest needs work.

Disappointing Hotel which needs updating. Asked for a room on a low floor was given third floor but this was changed on request. No mention's that you can’t pay for anything using cash which was very annoying.

No onsite parking. The staff is really why the poor review. Extremely uninformative, unhelpful, and rude. The room was very nice with a great view, but the bed was so lumpy and uncomfortable. Food was pretty good, just make sure you double confirm your booking because we had some issues. It’s way overpriced for what you get, the parking is really problematic, and the staff really just made our stay unenjoyable.

Not what we expected for a 4 star place

Insufficient parking for size of hotel. Mattress long past its useful service life. No tools to eat seafood in restaurant. No lift too upper floors. Asked to wait 80 minutes for a table for our breakfast so we went to Costa instead. One of our worst ever hotel experiences & we are not chronic complainers.
