Fantastic hotel location and great breakfasts. Could get an early check-in. I wish the beds were more firm. Staff worked hard at 3AM to arrange a taxi to the airport when the booked taxi did not show up due to the Wold Cup game the earlier night.
1. We tried beds in 3 different rooms and all were awful. Completely warn out with no support.
2. Asked concierge to recommend a kayak trip but didn't know anything about it.
3. All of the rooms and public spaces needed cleaning and updating. Broken trim on the internal stairs in the lobby. Really shabby.
3. Breakfast was absolutely great!
We had a twin superior room. The first room did not have air-conditioning and when they moved us at 10pm to the second room, it was way smaller 1/2 the size of the original. Two open suitcases couldn’t fit on the floor.
We enjoyed staying in this classy old hotel right in the heart of downtown Oslo. Great location and fun to be in the heart of the downtown square.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service
So, this property was originally built in the 17th century. It feels old ( and smells old). The property could be better maintained to retain its classic charm. Breakfast was good. Access to the spa for kids under 16 is only available between 0800-1000, so if you bring kids don’t count on this. Also, even though there was an open room next store the hotel did not put my kids in the adjacent room. Not the greatest service. I would give it 4 stars top.
This is an amazing, beautiful, luxury property in the heart of Oslo. It’s within walking or short tram ride to everything. The staff is incredible, with five star service—they bend over backwards to make it a great experience. The rooms are spacious and lovely. The spa and workout facilities are wonderful. I would highly recommend and plan to stay here if visiting Oslo again. 10/10!
The breakfast was in fact very good. What was not good was the confusion in what I paid for and what I got in terms of a room. I paid for Grand Room (Petite King) which apparently is not the Petite King suite listed on their website. What we got was an annoyingly gabled room with a skylight that could not be completely darkened (one of three couldn't). The carpet had a minor issue that I would have hoped they could have addressed. As it was the start to our vacation and my first time in Norway I did not complain. Now I am aware of Expedia disconnects of listed rooms, and I kind of blame Expedia more. Honestly I really should have calmly addressed this with the staff. I also now know a "Petite King" is a mattress size fair enough, but all our rooms were actually just doubles which are 2 twins put together. So the bed was not even anything special.
when checking in they said we could not because of the strike this was after a 14 hour plane flight, 20min train ride and 10 min walk. asked to just stay and not worry about cleaning room or anything just a place to sleep after having booked for 6 months. but no so luckily our Daughter & son and families were staying at Thon hotel and through them checking in manager was helpful to find us another Thon to stay put because they were full. I would never recommend the Grand Hotel was willing to turn people out on the streets and not have a place to sleep
Due to the strike the restaurant and bar were not open.

Had hairs in the bathroom (a real ike of mine)... room was a little tired, noise from adjacent bar was disturbing. Bars were all closed in the Hotel due to a strike... no ambience.
Nothing "Grand" about the Grand Oslo. Don't Stay here!
The service at the hotel was non-existent. While there was a general strike affecting some hotels in Oslo, they did not inform the guests in advance. They did not compensate the hotel guests in any way - like a free breakfast, dinner or discount.
I selected the Grand Oslo over other hotels for it's amenities like the gym, spa and roof top bar. None of them were open for my entire stay. Yet the full rate was charged for a full amenities hotel that was never at my disposal. Why was I not compensated in any way by the hotel or Expedia?
I stayed at the hotel for 7 days. No one cleaned the room, changed towels, or even emptied the bins. Guests had to do it for themselves. You could request some service and you "might" have gotten it, if you were lucky.
While the strike was outside of the hotel and it's owner corporation Skandic's control, the service, communication on site, and sensitivity to guests was completely in their control and they failed at every turn.
My enjoyment of Oslo was coloured by this poor experience. I have little confidence that this hotel could offer a 5 star experience when the strike is over. I encourage others to look at other hotels and chains when decided to visit Oslo.
Signed, Extremely Disappointed.

Liked the location....
That was the best part of the stay....
Pretty much downhill after that
Have to mention that there was a nation wide strike that definitely had an impact on the service we received.
Check in was not well coordinated despite the fact that the people were "marginally" pleasant(Antonio)....but emphasis on the marginally....Could be because the strike caused the staff to be probably overwhelmed and overworked....
Had a good dinner at the hotel restaurant and the gentleman that was behaving as waiter, bartender, seating host and maitre...was very good!!
The most disappointing part of our stay was the condition of the room....It was not good at alland certainly not what was depicted on line...
The carpet was filthy!!! the room was dated and needed a significant make over...
Expected more for the money we paid....
The best thing about this place was the location and ...when fully staffed I think the restaurant is very good....DJP

Liked: Staff & service
Disliked: Property conditions & facilities
Rooms have carpets and was terribly warm without the possibility to turn down heat. Opening windows is not an option due to city noise.
This hotel is beautiful and the staff was amazing! I didn’t like the parking because it’s very difficult to find and navigate to a space. There are also many stairs you have to carry all your luggage up and down. I would recommend this hotel but pack light!
