My wife, myself and 4 boys stayed at the house for the week, the property was as described and the lake was absolutely beautiful. The stairs into the water from the dock made enjoying the water so much easier. We will definitely look to rent at this location again.
Cabin location was great! Lake and sunset views are perfect! Island is not as friendly for renters as it used to be, trash and ferry are not renter friendly. Property owner was very easy to work with and helpful. Would stay there again.
Property excellent. Frye Island is beautiful, friendly and an excellent vacation spot. Love the golf course and the Rec center. Hope to be back next summer. Property owner is very helpful and gets back to you asap.
Beautiful location - fantastic sunsets, the house has great amenities. Everyone loved the “sunroom”.
John is great & responsive. We reached out and heard back in what felt like 10 minutes.
Lakefront view from back deck, back rooms and dock is the best. Spacious living and kitchen area, indoors, for our 6 adults. Owner very accessible, friendly, helpful for needs or questions. Kitchen note, Keurig for coffee. Washer and dryer great to have. Would rent again if in area.

Overall ok house. Linens and towels huge disappointment All need to be replaced! Glad I brought my own pillows and duvet. House was fine could use a little TLC. Very tired. Host responsive views beautiful. Fireplace did not work which was disappointment. Dock is great but a very steep stairway to get there. Hard for my husband. Kayak was not worthwhile. Rent your own.

Nice but Lots of Potential
The property has a lot of potential. There is no sandy beach access on the property , just the long dock area. Not sure if another party left right before we arrived, beds were made and it was tidied , but could
have used a better overall cleaning. (Floors , countertops, mopping etc.) Definitely a campground feel. Overall beautiful views and had a wonderful stay .
This was our second stay at this property and we enjoyed ourselves once again. John is a great communicator and all of my questions/concerns were answered promptly. The beds are pretty comfy and towels/linens are supplied. A brand new dock was just installed so a ladder was missing which made getting out of the lake a bit challenging for us older folks, but we managed. My only complaint is that the wi-fi is a little weak compared to other rentals in the vicinity. It was slow for those of us who (unfortunately) have work/school to do during our vacation. Hoping that gets an upgrade for when we visit again. Which we will! Thanks again for being a good host, John!
Beautiful views of the lake. Amazing sunsets you can see from inside the dining area right out through the sunroom. Perfect while cooking and eating dinner. Great communication with the owner. Very responsive when a couple questions that came up during our stay. Loved the dock and water access from the steps off the dock into the water, that was a big plus. Brought inflatable paddle boards and the steps made it easy getting them in and out. The owner supplied good quality adult life jackets. And 4 noodles. We did not look for or use children's life jackets as we were all adults. Rocky bottom off the dock but there is a sandy bottom beach you can swim or float to literally just on the other side of the neighbors. And many other sandy beaches you can go to if you wish or have children. We were all adults and very happy right out front as it was quiet and peaceful. Bring old sneakers or water shoes solves the issue. We are pickleball players and loved having the pickleball courts and a welcoming community of players there. So much fun! We cooked all our meals and found ample cooking utensils, dishes, pots and pans etc. I would recommend bringing your own dish towels and hot mitts as those were scarce. It was in the 90's most of the week so we appreciated having AC. If leaving on a Saturday at the end of your stay I suggest getting to the ferry early. Right after check out time10:00 is a long line of cars. We had an hour wait. All in all a very relaxing vacation.
It was an impressive property that had everything you need. Well stocked with everything you could need. . Great sunset over the lake, very comfortable and updated. Property owner was lied back and very helpful.
What a nice home on a quiet island, right on the water. We wanted to escape to a safe place and this place was great! Loved the views, the fireplace, the dock and beach. John T. Was a wonderful host. We loved the decor, especially the pops of red and the chickens/roosters!
My friends and I had a great time relaxing on the island. Plenty of natural beauty to take in and enjoy walking around the island. The cabin was warm and cozy, great views. Taking a trip into Portland was an easy drive, but we mostly enjoyed lounging around.
Unfortunately our adult children and babies were sick for their stay. We decided to leave early as we did not want to put any ones health at risk.
The accomodations were very nice. We were looking forward to this trip for a year.
We managed to get a couple of days of boating in prior to getting sick.
First time on frye island and whole family is in love with it. My nephew brought pontoon boat and went thru songs locks into long lake. House had everything we needed. Playes golf and went to trivia night at restaurant. Will be looking to go back for sure !
This was our first time renting on Frye Island. The house was perfect for what we had planned for our week away. The home was spacious with plenty of outside seating options depending on if you wanted to read in the shade, sit in the sun or cool off in the crystal clear water. The enclosed porch was a great option for anyone who needed a break from the outdoors. We loved that the dinning area could accommodate all of us for our nightly dinners. We rented a boat for 3 days and tying up to the dock/mourning was with ease. A few family members took in several rounds of golf as well. The location of this house is too far to walk to the general store but honestly you never want to leave it!
The sunsets are spectacular to say the least!!
John was a pleasure to speak with. He was available to answer last minute travel questions and was very helpful with recommendations on boat rentals and other general questions we had.
We would highly recommend this property if you are planning to stay on Frye Island. Enjoy!!
Great location with incredible sunsets. Nicely equipped with kayak, dock, mooring, Adirondack chairs, fire pit. Gotta remember to keep shower curtain closed or you will have some leakage through upstairs bathroom floor. Frye Island is the best!
proceed with extreme caution if you value your reputation/VRBO rating
Property dated but location lovely. Sunsets/swimming very nice. Advertised that house sleeps 12--no way. It's a 3 bedroom house. We had 11 guests on two nights of stay and two guests had to find other on-island accommodations, which was okay, and went unmentioned to owner. (It sleeps 8-9 comfortably.) Happened to have a major storm on island with hurricane-strength 80 mile winds, which knocked out power for 24 hours, and damaged property--which is where problems started. Owner's communications had been a little odd before check in--he railed about how prior horrible guests this summer had stolen his towels. Upon check out he texted, "thanks for trashing my house," and went on to accuse our party of extensive damage, notably vomiting on a bedroom wall and on mattress--a room which happened to be in the room my wife and I slept all week. It just couldn't have happened--my wife is a neat freak/interior designer princess and the pea type who spent week keeping place neat. He sent photos of alleged vomit we left. The most charitable explanation I can offer is that cleaners somehow failed to notice/clean before we arrived and we slept all week with dried puke behind bed. (Gross, right?) Strap us to polygraphs: I SWEAR ON MY KIDS' LIVES, NOBODY PUKED IN THAT ROOM THE WEEK WE WERE THERE. Also accused of damaging screens that were ripped off by a falling tree on the property. 4 adults cleaned for 90 minutes before leaving property--and even hung clean towels even though it was not requested by owner. After receiving increasingly unhinged accusatory emails from owner while still on the island--he was texting from his home in New Jersey, hadn't personally inspected house--we returned to property to inspect ourselves. 90 minutes after check out, cleaners were gone and place was immaculate. Hoped we might agree to disagree, and reached out (politely i might add, despite his invective/profanity) but there seemed to be no reasoning with owner. Can only assume his review of us as guests reflected his unfounded, ridiculous accusations. ANYONE who dares stay here and risk VRBO rating absolutely MUST take pictures of entire property upon check in and out, move beds away from walls to find dried leftovers from past guests, see if there's ANYTHING owner will try to pin on you after you leave. We've been renting through VRBO and other major sites that we can't mention in reviews with only great experiences, feedback, ratings. Absolute worst rental experience so far.
My family has been coming to Frye Island for over 25 years and this is the first time I've rented this house. A lovely spot, indeed. We were overall pleased with the accommodations (though we were a bit short on pillows for all 10 of us) and the kitchen was well stocked with equipment. We are considering booking it again next summer. Very comfortable and welcoming here!
This house is fantastic! 5 of us stayed for a girls trip and enjoyed every minute, even though the weather was rainy and cold on Saturday. We arrived late on Thursday and had some troubles finding the place due to google maps not reflecting the correct location, so be sure to double check - the address were changed a few years back which is why, google shows the old location. The neighbors definitely must have thought we were nuts as we turned around several times. I spoke with John, the owner, who was very easy to contact, friendly, and helpful.
When we pulled in there were a bunch of boxes at the top of the driveway left from the previous renters, but I think that was just due to the fact that the trash/recycling center is only open at certain times. The house was perfect - clean, with great views of the water, and everything we needed. Our favorite part was the fire place - especially as it rained all saturday morning, it was the perfect gathering space to relax and take the chill off while still enjoying the view.
I strongly recommend reading the binder if you rent this house - it's full of great information about this history of this house, and is quite adorable.
The only "negative" I would say is the 10 am check out.. I am not an early riser and it was tough to get everyone up and out in time, while also making sure we were returning the house the way we found it. Though, this is more of a personal problem than a house problem :)
