Affectionately referred to by many as the "Mother Temple of Bali," the Pura Besakih temple complex is Bali's largest and most important temple. Made up of 23 temples on the slopes of Mount Agung, Pura Besakih unfortunately has a negative reputation due to the many locals who harass travellers visiting on their own, telling them that hiring a guide is mandatory (when it is not). The pool area needs a spray as the ants crawled all over us and were nesting in the chairs. The bed was not comfortable but the room was nice. Restaurant food is limited especially for breakfast and we found a hair in our satay! Staff were excellent at both front desk and restaurant.
