We weren't able to check in for our first night. Our room was supposed to be reserved for us. However, when we picked up the keys at reception, someone else was occupying the room, meaning it was sold for two cents. We weren't refunded for the first night! The hotel's decor is dated, but still pleasant. The breakfast is substantial, unfortunately only for Germans, Russians, and English guests; no one eats sausages and beans in the morning! It's a shame, the Cretan cuisine is delicious... Insect bites in the room forced me to go to the pharmacy. Despite its inconveniences, the hotel is 100 meters from the beach and restaurants, a 15-minute walk from the historic center. The staff is friendly, the rooms and bathrooms are large enough, and room service is available every day. The value for money is reasonable.

poor first impression but warmed to it eventually

I was a tad concerned when I arrived after a difficult drive from Sitia area through the mountains (wonderful views but tortuous road wit diversions) as the welcome was a bit curt and first impression of the hotel not A1 ! (beach hotel it’s not). however I have warmed to it over the two days I spent there. It’s old, but has been well maintained and fairly recently updated in a tasteful and sympathetic way. the room (108) was old fashioned with hob and sink but large, clean and bright with superb A/C. huge balcony overlooking pools wit table & 2 chairs. efficient large fridge. compact bathroom but clean & tidy. wardrobe with adequate storage & lots of hangers. lift worked well with no queues. breakfast ordinary (no bacon but processed ham, selection of tasty cheeses, fruits, croissants, cake etc. no queues for tables. didn’t try dinner buffet. surprised to be serenaded by live music round the bar - rather good group. one block back from the beach road with it’s excellent well priced restaurants- on reflection I’d recommend it

Not a great experience, but works on a budget

This was the 5th hotel we visited on our week in Crete and it was by far the worst experience. The hotel is livable, sure, but the overall experience was just not something for us. For some reason we were placed in another hotel (although connected to the building) even though we booked a room at “Lefkoniko Beach”. No one gave us any information as to why. We got towels for only one person, even though we were two. There were literal strands of hair in the bathroom and stuck to the shower head. The room smelled really bad. The room didn’t really get dark once the curtains were drawn. It was crowded and I did not get a personal feel whatsoever. The breakfast was fine though. I would not come back to this hotel, there sure are lots of better options out there in my opinion. But as I said, it’s livable and works as a one-night-stay on a budget, just don’t expect too much.

Bed bug problems not taken seriously

We booked 2 rooms, one double and one single room. The double room was fair, although the sheets had some small dark spots (blood?) and the matrasses were very uncomfortable. After complaining, we got cover matrasses the next day. The single room experience however, was a disaster. We have been travelling to Crete 16 times, 11 to Rethymno, and stayed at 6 different hotels. This hotel experience was by far the worst. The first day the hotel was over booked, so the single room person had to stay at another hotel next door. Back to Lefkoniko, we immediate spotted several bed bugs in the single room. First we tried to just remove the spotted bed bugs, but wake up with bed bug activity during the night and painful bites in the morning. The bed bug problem persisted for 2 days, we had to change rooms 3 times with no luggage transfer service, and had to cope with very unfriendly reception personnel that did not take the bed bug problem seriously despite pictures and recording of bed bug activity, claiming we were "hysteric". We finally got a single room at another hotel, and the unlucky single room person could finally get some sleep. Rethymno is a great location and we will definitely come back, but never to this hotel.

Le rideau de douche devrait être changé plus souvent, le nôtre était vraiment sale. Toutefois, l’ensemble de l’hôtel était propre. Nous sommes allés une fin de semaine et il y avait environ 8 gars qui étaient excessivement bruyants, de 15 heures jusqu’à 22 heures car des clients se sont opposés à leur présence bruyante.

OK hotell

God plassering av hotellet. Hotellet ligger rett ved stranden og 15 minutter hyggelig spasertur mot gamlebyen. Litt slitent hotel og soverommet hadde vindu mot gangen og balkongen var vendt mot bakgården. Serviceminded betjening. Frokost var litt dårlig og lite utvalg av pålegg.
