"Property is gorgeous! Quiet, secluded yet easy to get to. Private patio off our room for morning coffee. Lovely! Manager was super helpful and accommodating when we needed a later check out. Included breakfast is really nice too. Highly recommend!!"
"Property was clean and well maintained. Great coffee and plentiful muffins in the morning. Staff was friendly and engaging. Great historic railroad hotel with lots of charm."
"Can’t beat the location of this property! Right on the water, and just a few minutes walk from the lodge or pizza place for a quick meal. Kayak, boat, and paddleboard rentals just a few minutes walk away as well. Sunsets and sunrises are amazing and the stars at night were spectacular! Quick access to Trail of Cedars and Avalanche Lake trails and Going to the Sun Road. Staying in the park helps so much in beating the crowds for hikes. Cabin has plenty of space and the washer/dryer helped us pack lighter than usual. Apgar Village is just down the road for more food options and water craft rentals. Wi-fi was reliable and kitchen had everything we needed. Camp store was just a stone’s throw when we needed more ice or paper goods. A little hard to find (have to go through the hotel parking lot to find your parking spot), but the privacy was nice once there. Neighbors are right next to your cabin so there will be others outdoors on their docks swimming and such, but everyone was pleasant. Would definitely snatch this one again!"
"Good stay in Essex on the way from Glacier National park at a quiet community of 40 people. Convenient stay on the way back from the East entrance of Glacier. Small rooms but clean and well maintained. The property wifi is very spotty and there's no cellphone signal there.
The owners also serve dinner at their restaurant next door, their Chinese food is quite good."

10/10 Excellent
"What a great experience! Wonderful place to stay! Cabin was even better than described. Beautiful, peaceful lake to look out at or take a quick morning or evening paddle. Very convenient to the park entrance. Trudi was an amazing host! Made it easy to just relax and have a great trip. "
"What a treat to stay where you take a few steps from the hotel to the lake and view the mountains and scenery--no need to drive, although there are beautiful sights within driving distance and wonderful hiking trails that allow you to get even closer to the beautiful scenery.
We stayed in a double bed room on the basement/lake floor. Special treat to have a second door with screen door that opened to the lake side of the hotel. This part of the hotel has an elevator for which we were grateful, especially after viewing all the stairs both inside and out. The room was comfortable with fan and even a small desk.
We took the hotel tour offered each afternoon. Our tour guide was interesting and shared much of the history of how the hotel was built, remodeled and remodeled again--had a notebook of pictures that helped understanding of the changes over the years.
We ate in the Ptagmigan Dining Room for breakfast--the breakfast continental breakfast met our needs. Lunch and dinner were enjoyed in the Swiss Lounge. There is also a small store on the lake level of the hotel which sells snacks, drinks and other food options. Staff in all hotel locations were friendly and helpful.
Excellent choice IF you can get a reservation!"
"We love to visit NP lodges and Lake McDonald lodge did not disappoint. The staff from check-in to check-out were friendly, very helpful and always listening for ways to make our stay more comfortable and enjoyable. We ate onsite at the Fireside Dining Room and Lucke's Lounge--food cooked to our request, service consistent, and prices reasonable considering location. The lobby is inviting with the beautiful lantern lights, the fireplace with etched stone and a variety of comfortable seating. And most important, the views inside the lodge and outside are outstanding.
Our accommodation was a small cabin and we enjoyed looking out our door and seeing a path to the lake.
We took the Western Alpine Red Bus tour which is a great way to see the western side of Going To The Sun Road without driving. Jammer Bill provided humor and fun as he shared the history of the road."
