Exuding character and charm, this traditional mill workers' cottage sits in the UNESCO World Heritage village of Saltaire. Sleeping two guests and one happy hound, this quirky property welcomes couples and solo travellers for a unique Yorkshire escape. Soak up the historic charms of this model town, admire David Hockney art in the old mill, and set off to explore the many walking routes and cycle trails in the surrounding countryside.
Stepping inside this cute, two-storey cottage is like stepping back in time. Traditional fireplaces, coving, wooden doors and wood panelling maintain the property’s original charm, complemented by period-style furnishings. Enjoy cosy evenings snuggled in the lounge next to the original (now decorative) fireplace, watching a film on the Smart TV. Rustle up meals for two in the atmospheric kitchen and dine together in the lounge or savour an al fresco feast in the private courtyard. When night falls, head upstairs and get cosy under the covers of the super-king-size bed, which can be converted into a twin on request. A traditional first-floor bathroom completes the interior, while outside there’s secure storage for bikes and plenty of on-street parking.
Named after the mill owner, Titus Salt, and the River Aire, Saltaire has a rich history and wonderful Italianate architecture. Wander around the Salts Mill complex, now an arts venue with a permanent exhibition by David Hockney, and stroll around the Victorian park. Visit in September to experience the brilliant Saltaire Festival, or head out of town to explore the picturesque Bronte Waterfall (11 miles). Saltaire is within easy reach of the Yorkshire Dales, making this ideal for outdoors enthusiasts as well as those interested in history.
