"My friends and I came away very pleased with our no-frills wilderness camping on Rod's property. He has the best view of the Huron Mtns I've seen, with a better perspective on the south faces than Pt Abbaye. They really lit up in the sun with peak color all over. We also loved his sweet dog Max, who quickly pivoted from intimidating bark at strangers to "dare you to try to take my stick" playfulness in seconds.I would go back in a heartbeat, but I did take off 1 star for listing accuracy only because I think it could be more informative. (And to be fair I did NOT ask enough questions beforehand and unconsciously projected my own fabricated expectations on the trip.) First off, know the "road" becomes a muddy two-track not fit for low-clearance vehicles maybe a mile before you arrive. This is FAR back in the woods so I'd advise packing EVERYTHING you need & don't plan on being able to make quick trips back into town. Rod did provide us with endless firewood, bucket for fire-dousing water, TP, and a Luggable Loo (no outhouse yet).Know Rod (camper) and his brother (tent) are temp. living on the north end of the propery. We camped in the SE corner. We could barely hear them at all so that wasn't a bother. The property's current ruggedness requires 4-low gear to get near the campsite but a side-by-side is available to get supplies closer. Shoreline is about a 15' drop from site level (climbable for the able-bodied). Very boulder-y so water shoes needed for swimming. Canoe to use"

"Incredibly amazing once again! I have been traveling for a few months all over the US. As a southern girl the last place I'd expect to land is the Upper Peninsula, and I'm so glad I did! Because of the beautiful story about Carla & Dougs start, 45 years ago, (ask them it's an inspiring story! ) their extremely kind heats, willingness to assist me with everything & offering insightful advice; I fell in love with them & Baraga! This is my second trip with them inside of a month, I've officially begun making arrangements to call this future winter wonderland home. All it took was sincere acts of kindness to make this once foreign place feel like home. This place is representative of their story, their life and the community. It's special, charming, cozy & warm. Its NOT like those ridiculously overpriced outfits and I personally am glad! I've never slept better than right here. It's welcoming inviting and a long standing piece of history over looking the beautiful bay! Stepping back in time here at Carlas Lakeshore Motel has been magical & appreciated. I admire them both and will absolutely see them again! Thank you Carla and Doug for continuing to be so kind, for remaining in business for 45 years growing more and succeeding! Thank you for your absolutely perfect mom & pop motel! You both changed my future in a positive way. This world needs more people like you both. :-)"

"The house was perfect! It was the perfect home base for exploring the Keweenaw each day and the perfect place to relax each evening. The sun room is amazing and waking up in bed each day to see the sunrise over the lake was lovely. The lake was calm most our time there but still lovely to listen to each day. I have no complaints or suggestions bc it’s already the best. "

"Amazing property in a picturesque setting! You can’t get much closer to the lake than this! The house was beautifully decorated with an amazing, fully-stocked kitchen. We cancelled two days of exploring out and about just so we could soak in the peacefulness of being in the house on the beach."

"These past 3 days were a trip back to my childhood! The coziness of the camper was very much like the one my parents had for our vacations. Most everything was typical of a maintained camper - gas stove with an electric option, windows, toilet, shower, refrigerator, with a modern plus of a microwave. Being next to Lake Superior/L'Anse Bay was a big plus. Owners were a phone call away if needed (I did call for info and they were answered immediately). The only drawback was that fact that US-41 was nearby - but easily ignored after a few hours. A few bugs BUT(!!) you're in the UP in summer - get over it! I will most certainly return in the future."

"Cabin was delightful. It was super clean, outfitted with absolutely everything needed for our stay. We cooked all of our meals in the kitchen. Slept soundly in the comfy bed. Kiersten was a good friendly neighbor but not nosy or “too close.” We had use of a motor boat, kayaks & fishing gear. She & husband, Tom have updated the rustic log cabin into something very special. Decorated cozy & “Up North.” She went so far as to offer us another nights’ lodging when our plans for the next stay evaporated… Gratitude! Brava! Thank you!!"
