Wow sea-view! walks, cliffs, wildlife - spacious contemporary home

  • Relax, Recharge and Reconnect.

Set on the edge of the Isle of Skye’s stunning Trotternish Peninsula, Ceol Na Mara (pronounced ‘kyol’ and meaning Music of the Sea) is a welcoming retreat where you can relax, cook with a view and reconnect with nature in comfort and style.
From the house, you’ll have uninterrupted views across The Minch, with changing light, coastal weather and dramatic skies creating a constantly shifting backdrop. Inside, we’ve designed the space to be calm and inviting, a place where you’ll know you’re on Skye every minute of the day. We have a thoughtfully designed and well-equipped kitchen - you’ll be cooking on an island on an island! Everything is set up to help you feel at home.

Step outside and you’re surrounded by Skye’s raw beauty. Wander along cliff paths, follow ancient trails, and let the pace of the island slow you down. The Skye Trail passes just beyond the house - ideal for intrepid walkers. The night sky is awesome, and if the conditions are right, you can catch the Northern Lights dancing across the Minch right ahead of you.

You’re in the heart of a landscape shaped by legend and time. Visit the iconic Old Man of Storr, hike through the surreal terrain of the Quiraing, or spot dinosaur footprints at Staffin Beach. Rubha Hunish is a 75 minute walk away, offering breathtaking views to the Outer Hebrides.

We’re regular visitors to the island for more than 12 years and we’re delighted to provide our guests with plenty of thoughtful recommendations and favorite places to eat. Whether you're exploring or simply exhaling, we invite you to make Ceol na Mara your own retreat and enjoy the quiet joy of simply being here.

Ceol na Mara is our own personal retreat, we’ve poured a lot of love into it. We hope you feel that during your stay.

A beautiful property in a peaceful setting, right by the water. Chris and Luisa were amazing hosts. Quick to respond, helpful, and courteous. Their home is lovely. Comfortable and cozy with lots of thoughtful little touches. It feels like you're a world away from everything, but it's only about a 45-minute drive to Portree, Highly recommend!

We highly recommend staying at this home! Beautiful views, spacious, clean, comfortable bed, large kitchen, amazing location! The location is great and feels remote, yet is close enough to hiking and other attractions of the isle. The hosts were easy to communicate with, and provided lots of information. Truly spectacular!

This has to be in my top ever vacation rentals! A beautiful place and an attentive host. The welcome treat were delicious and appreciated. It's the perfect location to go see all the sights and enjoy Skye. The convenience of having the EV charger was great and easy use as well as saved us the hassle of having to use the public ones. I would definitely come back and recommend this property.

We really enjoyed staying here. Communication with the hosts was excellent before and during our stay. The accommodation was modern and clean and fully equipped with everything you could ask for. They have thought of everything and applied personal touches that were so welcoming. The property guide was extremely helpful and instructional. It was the perfect location for exploring Trotternish and the West of Skye. We also enjoyed just having quiet time in Balmaqueen; that view really is WOW. Would happily stay here again.

First ones in, and we already want to come back! Chris and Luisa have been brilliant hosts. Very communicative and helpful with suggestions for first time guests of the Highlands. There are guides and maps and helpful binoculars to watch birds. The sheep grazing in sight were lovely. The place was immaculate and fully stocked. Be prepared to bring food supplies en route. The kitchen was easy to navigate and accommodated all of our food stuffs. Our stay was fantastic and we enjoyed every step of the experience. Our gratitude to the wonderful hosts!!

Where to begin? Let's start with "beyond spectacular"...our first thoughts as we walked through the door. This is truly a little slice of magical paradise...rustic and refined at the same time. The property is very thoughtfully imagined, it seamlessly blends with the bounty of the nature within which it presides, unassuming yet perfect. I believe we were the first to book even before there were any reviews, however I just knew by the selection of photos and careful description that it was going to be special, and it was. Chris and Luisa are very gracious and super-attentive hosts, however what differentiates them from most, is that they also create an expectation from their guest to live up to the standard that is being offered. This is not common and we liked it. It's the differentiating factor from most vacation rentals, in that it makes it immediately feel like home. The attention to detail: the hand soap, the shortbread cookies, the locally roasted coffee, the chocolates, the luxurious white towels, the wood ready for a cozy fire, the high-end appliances, the soaker tub, comfy beds, floors clean enough that you feel like walking barefoot, the front-entry room which serves as excellent storage for your luggage/coats/boots etc, modern heating and climate control etc. But above all, the architectural design...every window lends itself to the beauty of Skye. We would surely return in a heartbeat!

Just to give some background, we are an adult couple, well travelled, who value peace, nature, comfort, and luxury. This house delivered on every aspect. In fact, this is one of the few places that is even better in person than in the photos. The interiors are beautifully designed, immaculate, and thoughtfully put together. The kitchen was exceptionally equipped with almost everything one could possibly need. We have stayed in many Airbnb homes, but it is rare to come across hosts this gracious and thoughtful. The quality of the linen and mattress was exceptional, and we had some of the best sleep during our trip. The Bose speakers, high-tech washing machine, AEG cooking unit, and even the quality of the cutlery, crockery, and cookware showed how much thought had gone into every detail. The views and peace were simply 100/10. Watching sheep graze in the front and backyard while listening to the sound of sea waves was magical. We stayed for 6 days, and every day felt different, changing shades of blue and grey skies, the horizon where the sky met the ocean, and the surrounding green and rocky mountains made every moment unforgettable. And Luisa was one of the most amazing hosts we have come across — prompt in responding and spot on with her recommendations. We cannot thank her enough. One thing is certain: if we ever return to Scotland, it would be only and only for this house.

Amazing, remote, quiet, beautiful modern home, well equipped to cook-in, which we did all 3 nites stay, so relaxing. Comfortable bed, loved watching the sheep graze in fields just beside us out any window when we got up. A short few steps to the ocean, views to die for and great communication with the hosts for check in and more tips on what to see all around Skye. Highly recommend for a great end to our Scotland adventure.

Truly a special location. The view was to die for and the location incredibly peaceful and quiet. Luisa and Chris took such care during our communications and put us at ease, making every step of the way smooth and comfortable. Checking in was a breeze and Ceol na Mara was a delight to stay at. The kitchen was stocked with everything you need (or would want!!) for a self-catering holiday. Normally I dread cooking at a holiday rental (the knives are dull or the pans are worn through) but everything at Ceol na Mara kitchen was new and something I would love to have in my own kitchen. After spending 4 days in Skye, I realized Ceol na Mara is in the most ideal location at the top of Trotternish peninsula—a short drive to Staffin for provisions, incredibly close to Rubha Hunish & the Quiraing, and situated in as close to isolation as you can get on Skye. At night we heard nothing except the waves.Do yourself a favor and book here for a truly relaxing and special holiday on Skye.
Highland coos up the road & friendly too!

This property & its owners were absolutely fabulous from day one right to the end! The photos were absolutely stunning and we knew it would be a wonderful setting for our holiday but being there in the flesh brought out a truly stunning & memorable experience we will carry with us forever. The cleanliness was superb! The set up could not be more perfect. The communication with the owners was extremely smooth, responsive & kind. This property has everything! A stunning & very full kitchen with all that you need to cook nice dinners if you prefer to eat at home & even some cook books if you’d like to try new recipes! Games for the evening & even a wood burning fireplace for chilly nights. The location of the rental property was the very best it could be for all the locations we wished to visit on Skye. From The Quiraing, The Old Man of Storr, Fairy Glen, Kilt Rock Waterfalls & so many more gorgeous sites to see were all located in very close proximity to the property. So close that each day we woke up early, went site seeing, returned back to the property for lunch, tea and a short rest & then back out for more site seeing & home by dinner. This property also has the most spectacular windows to view the stunning sea front right outside. We were extremely fortunate to have such wonderful weather & the opportunity to view a pod of dolphins & even a shark outside the window of the family room! It truly was the trip of a lifetime. We cannot wait to return one day soon!

Staying at Luissa and Chris' unbelievable home was the absolute highlight of our entire trip to Scotland. If you are considering booking this incredible place, just do it! It has the most phenomenal views out to the ocean. There is a little path down the lane where you can walk along the ocean passing sheep and lambs on your way to see the nesting shore birds from way above. Waking up to that view every day makes you feel like you are dreaming with little bunnies peeking in the window. The place is immaculate, with luxurious bedding and a beautiful full length tub to relax in after a day of hiking. It's close to so many of the famous sights like the Old Man of Storr. We spent three nights here for our anniversary and will treasure every memory. What an incredible gem of a place. It's our dream to own a place just like this some day.
