All reviews shown are from real guest experiences. Only travelers who have booked a stay with us can submit a review. We verify reviews according to our guidelines and publish all reviews, positive or negative.
We reserved a four bedroom cabin that was advertised to sleep 15 guests, with fireplace, jetted bathtub, river view, daily maid service, etc. When we arrived we were told that we were being put in a different room (one bedroom, no fireplace, no river view, tiny bathroom, etc.) When I stated that was not acceptable, the owner, who appeared intoxicated, starting swearing at me and my children. He said that he and some women were in the cabin we had reserved and that we could sleep with them if we wanted to, but that he was not giving up his bed. When I told him that we were not about to do that and that we had a clear reservation through Expedia with a detailed description, he told me to shut up and either take the cabin he was giving us or get off of his (expletive) property. We were unable to find any other open lodging at the last minute with this being the peak of fishing season (last day of July) in the Kenai area. It was actually frightening to have to stay there. We never saw him again during the horrible stay.
He later jammed two hand written, somewhat incoherent notes of apology for his behavior in the room door.
Since our stay and my report to Expedia, I now see there has been a review of the hotel by a verified traveler. The poorly written response by the hotel to the August 8 review supports the fact that these reviews are accurate. This place should never be stayed at as long as this man is present on the property or involved with guests in any way.
We had a wonderful time at the Kenai Magic Lodge. The cabins were adorable and had everything you need in them. If they didn't have something you needed Bret was there to help you. He was such a wonderful host. He helped us find a fantastic fishing guide, Dustin. Bret even brought us some food for breakfast because he knew we had to get up early for our fishing trip. The beds were very comfortable as well. There were only two of us but there was enough room for our family of 6. we can't wait to go back and bring the kids!
We arrived to have a drunk man yell and scream at us, then tell us we did not have a reservation, when we prove to him we do in fact have 2 cabins reserved he says expedia messed up. Then we show him the email directly from him saying we were confirmed for 2 rooms he blows up. He was very hostile and rude, he them proceeds to offer us a travel trailer with no bathroom for 9 people a street over. DO NOT use this company. We ended up in a hotel next to a mcdonald for 3 times the price.
