If you come to Ten Bits Ranch when the moon cycle is dark, after 20 minutes (for your eyes to adjust), the stars will appear to surround you like a blanket. Be sure to watch for shooting stars. The Courthouse (Room #8) is a very large private hotel room with 2 king beds, full sized couch, air conditioning, gas log fireplace, WIFI, satellite television, mini refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker and a large private bath, all in an old Western town setting.
The Ten Bits Ranch Courthouse (Room #8) is part of an old West town themed setting. There is a Bank, Schoolhouse, Gun Shop, General Store, Steakhouse, Hattery, Gazette, Courthouse, Saloon, Hotel, Barber Shop, Saddle shop and Jail.
There are several shared fire pits on Ten Bits Ranch, including one right outside the Courthouse (Room #8). There is a guest shared Cantina dining area with a full kitchen for your use. You may save a significant amount of time and money while in Big Bend by preparing your own meals in the shared Cantina kitchen.

Built in 2020, the Ten Bits Ranch Courthouse (Room #8) is a highly engineered, high efficiency desert oasis with 14-inch-thick insulated reinforced concrete walls, geothermal heating and cooling in the floor, 8.5 inches of closed cell foam ceiling insulation (like a Yeti cooler) and 100% self-generated solar power. The Courthouse (Room #8) is nearly twice the size of a standard hotel room yet due to efficient construction the room uses only one quarter of the electric power of a normal room.

Enjoy some of the best stars and mountain views in Big Bend all while staying in a real West Texas off grid setting.

Beautiful Views

I simply cannot wait to come back. The cabins were well cared for, and the scenery is amazing. I am into astrophotography, and I was able to capture stunning shots from right outside the porch. I would recommend this place to anyone.

Perfect for our Big Bend Getaway

Perfect location and wonderful facilities. It was perfect for our group (me, my daughter and niece). The location itself had everything we need, esp with the cantina storage and kitchen situation. We loved the fire pit outside our room and the views were amazing. Star gazing each night was magnificent. The only negative comment is the water pressure in the shower - after a long day of hiking and dust the barely there shower was less than satisfying. Will definitely stay again!!

A dream experience

This property was gorgeous! I worried we would be “roughing it” here but that wasn’t the case at all. It was clean and welcoming with satellite TV, cool AC and comfortable bedding. Plus a nice bathroom which is important. The view out the front porch can’t be beat! I love that they are dog friendly as we were traveling with our police dog. This was a quiet property and the other guests were all friendly. I hope to come back here one day soon.

Exactly as described. It was huge space for 3 adults staying one night. Resembles small western town. Our own fire pit and porch with rocking chairs was great! The cleanliness could use improvement but the views well made up for it. Very comfortable king size beds. Water pressure in shower isnt the best but that could be because they're off grid---shower head needs serious cleaning or replaced. Be aware--its a rough ride up the "driveway."

Overall a great unique experience

This little spot is cute but a bit remote. The cabin we stayed in was great. 2 queen beds and spacious. Bath was very nice too. Plenty of towels and appointed well. Refrig, microwave and coffee bar were appreciated. The 2 miles on the choppy road was not a winner for us. We just learned a bit more about this part of TX and probably won't return as there was so much driving. If you want complete solitude you will love it here. The communication was really good and instant so thanks !

Fantastic

The property was excellent. I love the way they use solar power and try to be Earth friiendly. The view was wonderful, the hiking trails wonderful, the cabin itself was really, really nice. We love tis place. It's our second time there and I'm sure we'll be back. My granddaughter, age 7 didnt want to leave.

Beautiful and friendly

The setting is gorgeous, the managers are very proactive in communicating and it is just as described. It was so quiet, the night sky was fabulous and the communal kitchen added just the right touch of camaraderie to a quiet desert getaway. Totally charming.

Nice location but could use a deep cleaning.

Loved the location and the night sky viewing. Big beds were awesome too. However, the place could use a deep cleaning. Floors were still quite sandy/dirty. Shower was not as clean as it should have been and the shower head should be de-scaled or replaced so water flow is not wonky or restricted so much.

Wonderful trip to Big Bend

Ten Bits Ranch was a great place to stay to visit Big Bend. It was perhaps slightly further away from Terlingua than we thought, but it worked fine. The ‘cantina’ where we had breakfast was a great way to meet other guests, and the kids loved stargazing near the fire pit. My only criticism is that our room needed to have been aired before we arrived. It is built of concrete which smelled unpleasant and there was a layer of dust on everything. This was a real shame as the location was wonderful.

A beautiful location

The first thing we noticed when we arrived was the surrounding peaks. It was like we were in the park. We drove down North County Rd and saw up close formations that we did not see in the national park. Our room was very comfortable. The one thing that suprised us was that the water on the ranch is not drinkable. The owners proved plenty of water for everyone. We enjoyed going to the central kitchen and dining building. It gave us a chance to visit with others and shared what was seen at the national and state park. There was plenty of refrigerator space for our food. They provided a variety of choices for breakfast and had lots of spices on hand to cook with. The staff is not on sight but they were easy to reach and very helpful. If you had any questions about your cabin or where to go in town they were available to help you.

Incredible star viewing

The property was very nice and put together well. The location is a bit remote so make sure to bring your own drinks and snacks but otherwise it is an amazing location with great facilities. Check in and out was seamless.

We really enjoyed the secluded setting, surrounded by hills and mountains. Very quiet and peaceful. Room was perfect with a thermostat-controlled gas fireplace and comfortable beds and nice sofa. Very peaceful and relaxing.

Viva Ten Bits

First, we love the Big Bend area. So, someone would have to mess up really bad to not enjoy your time there. 10 Bits were excellent hosts. The cabins are just as described but considering the desert conditions I was impressed at how nice and comfortable our cabin was (Initially #8 eventually #7). Walk in shower is awesome. The county road was a bit rough, but we were warned prior to our arrival, and our two-wheel drive vehicle handled them just fine (take your time). We did have issues with the a/c in our room, but Sis took care of us immediately and moved us next door. No issues beyond that. She offered to refund us for the inconvenience, but there wasn’t any need for that. It was a minor issue that was quickly remedied. We’ve traveled internationally, and throughout Texas. This is by far our favorite place to be. Ten Bits makes it even more enjoyable. Your nearly roughin’ it, but you still have a comfortable and clean cabin to retreat to at the end of the day. 10 Bits does supply some water, but you really need to bring your own. You’ll use it. We brought 2-(24 ct) cases and 3-gallon jugs. It is dry and hot during the day. I can’t say enough, fantastic views, Hen Egg Mtn is beautiful. The starry skies out there are bigger than I can ever remember seeing in my youth. We spent every evening overwhelmed with the stars and the number of falling stars you see each night. Cowboy, Sis can’t wait to come back. Your property is gem. Thanks for hosting us.

Fantastic Vacation Getaway!

If you are looking for a great place to stay in the Terlingua, TX area, Ten Bits Ranch is absolutely wonderful! My wife, my dog, and I just spent four fantastic nights in this recreated Old Wild West town set off the beaten track among some of the most amazing geologic features and incredibly beautiful scenery found anywhere in that part of the state! The two-mile unpaved road to the ranch from highway 118 is a bit rough in places and definitely bumpy, but the scenery along the way is beautiful, captivating, and even jaw-droppingly awesome in places. In keeping with its Old West theme, each of the ranch’s rental units is architecturally designed to resemble buildings often seen in western movies: the Prospector Hotel, Barber Shop, Bank, Gun Shop, School House, Courthouse, etc. The Cantina, a community kitchen and dining area, is fully equipped with everything we needed including dishes and silverware. All we required was our favorite food which we brought with us. The Cantina also gave us an opportunity to get acquainted with our neighbors whom we thoroughly enjoyed. Our hosts, Sis and Cowboy, provided an assortment of complimentary items for breakfast such as waffles, bread, and Keurig coffee. A basket of snacks was always available, and the refrigerator was always stocked with complimentary bottled water. Water in the rental units isn’t potable, but complimentary bottled water is provided in each unit, plus knowing we would be arriving during hot weather and would be spending a lot of time outdoors, we brought several gallons of drinking water with us. Our unit, the Courthouse, was large, clean, wonderfully furnished, extremely comfortable, had wi-fi, and offered incredible views of the magnificent landscape. I enjoy photographing the night sky, and every night offered dazzling views of the Milky Way and/or incredible lightning displays from passing thunderstorms. The first storm had to be the Mother-of-all-Thunderstorms! We absolutely loved it, but not so our dog who spent both storms hiding under one of the beds. I took several fantastic photos of lightning displays and a variety of spectacular photos of the Milky Way with the nearby spired mountains and a vintage pickup truck in the foreground. Our stay at Ten Bits Ranch was one of the most enjoyable vacations we have had! We highly recommend it to anyone looking for an exciting getaway in Big Bend country!

Great location

Ten Bit Ranch was perfect for us. We were close to everything and not far from the park. The cabin we stayed in was clean and the place was quiet. We had a small breakfast both mornings we were there and it was great! We look forward to our next stay.

The Courthouse

Easy to find, super clean and the perfect place to unplug! The Cantina was well stocked and the access to a gas grill was just what we needed for dinner there one night. The views from The Courthouse porch are unobstructed and we spent many hours in the rocking chair! Thanks for sharing your property with us!
