With less water flowing, guides take you 3 to 4 miles up the canyon with some spots having to portage. But take it all in stride because the views are breathtaking. I recommend Big Bend River Tours. You might get lucky and have the guides that take you a half mile up a side canyon. An excellent day excursion in the out of the way national park.

  • The Closed Canyon hike in Big Bend Ranch State Park was completely deserted when we went on a Tuesday in April. We hiked further than the 0.7 mile indicated on the signage, and ended up scooting and scrambling up the most interesting narrow and smooth chutes. We heard the song of the elusive canyon wren, too. Incredible views

Great stay. Right across the street from the general store just in case we forgot something, or the always important necessity...ICE. Everything was very close...Big Bend entrance is 5 minutes down the road, and the restaurants and bars are 10-15 minutes away. The POOL was a great feature. We spent a good amount of time up there... again amazing views!
