About this property

Schoolhouse | Fenced Yard | Family & Dog Friendly

  • 🏫 Renovated 1893 One-Room Schoolhouse
🐶 Fenced-In Pet and Family Friendly Yard
✨ Original 7-Foot Windows, Hardwood Floors, Historic Details
❤️ Warm and Welcoming Family-Inspired Touches
🌅 Close to Northern Michigan's Most Iconic Attractions

Hosted by Catered Stays Rentals, Cedar Run Schoolhouse is a beautifully renovated one-room schoolhouse that blends historic charm and the modern comforts you want to have while travelling. The main room boasts original 12.5' ceilings, hardwood floors, handblown glass windows, vintage doors, and lath/plaster walls. Once a place of chalkboards, Sunday School lessons, quilting clubs, and community events, this historic space has been completely reimagined into a one-of-a-kind getaway with a refined Victorian Modern design. Cedar Run Schoolhouse was originally renovated as our family home, so you'll find hand-painted dump trucks and dinosaurs on the bedroom wall, a chalkboard that held our family love notes, a steel staircase hand-welded by a Master Welder, and other carefully curated details to make you feel right at home as you explore the beauty of Northern Michigan.

As we were intentional in preserving the footprint and character of the home, there are a few quirks to be aware of when renting. Please be sure to read carefully, as we will not provide refunds to guests who cancel mid-stay due to anything described in the listing.
    - Laundry is located on the second floor of the home and only accessible via stairs
    - There is a macerator system used for water disposal for the second floor bathroom so the ceiling could remain above 12 feet tall. As a result, the "water monster" (as it's lovingly referred to by our young children) wakes up and growls quietly when water is in use so you can remember to "save water for the whales."
    - Due to limitations in renovating, the primary bedroom is accessible via the bathroom on the main floor. Typically, this isn't an issue for most folks, though we highly recommend using a "knock first then enter" system when hosting several guests.

Please also be aware that this is a pet-friendly, historic rental. We have dogs coming through on a regular basis to enjoy the fenced-in yard and many of the windows and doors are original to the home. Though we have an exceptional cleaning team, folks with severe allergies or unique sensitivities should consider renting elsewhere, as even with thorough cleaning, we cannot guarantee non-reaction. Most folks with this severe level of allergies are aware of this risk in renting any home that allows pets.
