We chose to stay in Oita one night before heading to Beppu to experience the onsen. This hotel is easy to find, as it's a straight shot on the main road from the station. The hotel was clean, quiet, had great amenities, and offered extra toiletries for women. The room was spacious compared to other similarly priced hotels in Japan, and the breakfast, which was in the restaurant attached to the hotel, was outstanding with many different options and regional specialties. Very clean hotel right next to Oita station lots of shopping and food and easy travel but bus or train or foot . My fiance said the onsen was super nice and clean . Checking in and out very easy and fast all the staff super nice and friendly and very accommodating considering I don't speak Japanese. I have visited Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto and Oita for a little over a week in each city. Oita was by far my most enjoyable and relaxing city I have visited. Great little place about a 10 minute walk from Oita station. Check out Cafe Giraffe just around the corner. Great cappuccino and honey almond toast bread with ice cream.
I enjoyed Beppu's Onsens (Myoban) but actually liked Oita the city a lot more. It's only about a 20 minute train ride to Beppu.
