An unexpected highlight on our trip. This hotel was an unexpected joy with a rather strange, but visually abundant amount of material to see on every wall. The staff, while young, were all friendly and helpful. The restaurant, located across the street in a separate building was very good. Rooms were well sized and comfortable. I recommend spending some time in the lobby with a beverage and digging into the decor. Breakfast was also very good.

Hotell Gastis was so quirky with so many books and artefacts. Our room was very small but perfectly adequate. We hired bikes and visited a small nature reserve. We also went in the Leninbadet which was an amazing experience, even with the steam room not working. It was like going back in time and we loved it. There were major building works going on outside the hotel but we couldn’t hear anything even though our room overlooked them. The roof terrace was lovely and we sat there with a post dinner drink! Drinks were expensive and we didn’t eat there in the evening, but the breakfast was really good and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay

Cosy time warp

An enjoyable stay inside a "step back in time" hotel, dressed up from a time long gone. Great staff, nice breakfast, in a very cosy environment, though I'd have preferred slight softer pillows.

A very special hotel.

Charming and and a very special hotel with a nice location in Varberg. A special hotel which we will seek out again if Varberg is on our itinerary. Very fine saloons and bar.

A unique and fun hotel

Truly unique with 15000 books and a wellness section modeled after Lenin’s bathhouse… quirky and charming, with uniquely designed rooms. We stayed in the Otto Torell-room which was huge. The somewhat worn standard is part of the charm and something to appreciate in this hotel. There’s also so much to look at with weird and curious details littered throughout. Staff was friendly but everything including the bar closed at around 10pm.

Charmigt och mysigt hotell i Varberg. Inget rum är det andra likt så vi hade nog otur när vi fick ett väldigt litet dubbelrum. Sköna sängar! Tyvärr hade städningen en hel del att önska. Dammigt lite varstans speciellt i hörn, under sängen (trots skylt som stod under sängen att det är städat även där..), gardinerna gråa av damm upptill. Vi fick be om städning dag 2 för de ingick tydligen inte, trots att det stod att ville man ha nya handdukar skulle de läggas på golvet, märklig logik. De välte en necessär så allt spreds över badrumsgolvet och lämnade det så! Spadelen var mysig och levde upp till förväntningarna även om vi hade räknat med lite mer. Var dock noga med att välja en tid med mindre folk, vi var där en lördag 13-14 och fick njuta i lugn och ro, sen kom högljudda gäster och vi valde att avsluta fastän vi hade 3 timmar bokat. Åter till vårt rum, inte bara litet utan låg även precis ovanför Leninbadet/bubbelbadet som låter rätt mycket när det drar igång. Var helt ok på dagen/kvällen ljudmässigt men när det drar igång klockan 3 på natten då börjar man undrar.. Frukosten var mycket bra första morgonen, den kan antingen höja eller sänka ett hotell, tyvärr sänkte den hela upplevelsen andra morgonen med bränt kaffe, sämre upplagt/skurit, kändes som att någon inte brytt sig. Vi hade en fin och mysig helg, ångrar inte att vi valde Gästis men kommer inte att boka här igen. Hade städningen varit bra och frukosten lika bra båda dagarna hade det blivit 4 stjärnor, nu bara 3.
