"Loved out stay at this hotel and restaurant on our final day in the Lakes. We stayed in Scafell Pike with the only negative being the room was very hot (we stayed in late Aug). We would definitely stay there again. "
"A very quiet peaceful break away food was very good the staff were friendly and welcoming. Located right on the lake so views were amazing lovely clean room would highly recommend a visit."
"We had som issues with a front door that couldn’t open or -once opened- was very diffiicult to lock. We found the communication with the company very difficult and it took five days (out of a seven days stay) to get it sorted. Afterwards we were told there was nothing wrong with the door??"
"High Ridge is perfectly situated right in the middle of Ambleside. However, it really does need some TLC. There are damp patches on the walls , the bed linen is rather questionable, & the window blinds are just simply dreadful . They let light in, don’t work properly & are very tatty indeed.
The furnishings are of poor quality & there are just far too many dreadful pictures on the walls.
The kitchen & bathroom are good but the rest of the property needs a jolly good face lift . Having said...

"We loved staying at the Elder Grove! Lovely room with a comfortable bed. On the main street, but outside noise never bothered us. The location makes it very walkable around Ambleside. Nice extra touches in the room like cookies and cocoa. The 'Herdy' mugs made me smile and the toilet paper has the ouline of little dogs imprinted on it.
Breakfast had a nice selection of cold items, including homemade granola which was excellent. Made to order hot items. Andrea was very warm and welcoming."
"Great B&B - very welcoming, comfortable rooms, clean, and with a fantastic breakfast. Excellent location for Ambleside and the rest of the Lake District"
"We spent a wonderful week at the Brathay Lodge.
The room was very comfortable with a big high bed.
Trevor, Karen, Zoe and Carol were very friendly and welcoming, nothing was too much trouble
The hospitality tray was well received.
Parking was excellent alongside the hotel.
The hotel was ideally placed, minutes from the town centre , shops, restaurants etc
The only down side, I appreciate due to the age of the building, there was no lift which would have been helpful carrying our luggage up and down the stairs to the second floor. However this would not stop us staying at this great hotel in the future.
Thank you all "
"The staff were absolutely brilliant at their jobs, so friendly and yet professional. The hotel has ample parking, serves a brilliant breakfast and has a great spa. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED"
"The hotel was perfect for a family week of rambling in a rain soaked week. Our puppy was welcomed and kids enjoyed the food.
The room itself a little cramped with the sofa bed in use but but it was very comfy"
"Got a last minute deal and was then upgraded. Very comfy bed, quiet room wifi worked well , refurbished shower hot and strong. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious . Minimal staff tried hard and very friendly. "
"Self check instructions were clear. Room was serviced while we were out. Help via the phone was immediate when we needed it. Room clean and spacious. All very good. Only downside was that car park was a good 5-8 minute walk away… but at least there was parking as opposed to there being none. Needed window open as warm weather but that lead to noise disturbance. Of course that was due to fabulous central location - I realise you can’t have central and quiet! I’d stay again, thank you. "
