Great location very helpful staff and a fantastic bar with a lovely atmosphere even in january . One of the best breakfasts ive had in a hotel buffet style with very attentative staff. Rooms basic but clean with a comfy bed all you need really had a great 2 nights and would book again with no hesetation . Big thank you to all at the royal .

Just getting home from a lovely weekend with my hubby the hotel was beautiful clean and very helpful staff breakfast was beautiful plenty to chose from and will return later on in the year as the weather was very snowy so found getting around on foot was horrendous like a skating rink to walk on but overall a great time away.

We had a four poster room and it was absolutely beautiful. Very clean and comfortable. The other main thing for us as it's winter is that the room was lovely and warm. Nothing too much trouble for the staff. The Fat Badger bar and restaurant is an amazing place and the food was outstanding and plentiful.

Did not eat here. Had drinks in the bar which is well stocked. The hotel is beautifully decorated. Rooms, bed,pillows comfy. Depending on your room excellent views over the harbour/abbey . Short, easy walk into town.

There was a lot of decorating going on particularly along our corridor, and they are presumably going to improve all bedrooms eventually. We were pleasantly surprised by how good the hotel was. Bar area really good and very busy. Being able to pre book parking is a bonus and worth doing. Breakfast slightly disappointing as they kept running out of things and there were a few queues but what we had was good and it was very busy. Would definitely stay there again. It doesn't appear to be a Shearings hotel anymore .
