Staff are lovely - although there is a risk of wine recommendations becoming a sales pitch. There are lots more hotel-organised trips available than before. This can provide comfort and confidence to new visitors but you can save money if you choose to arrange them yourself. Pool area is beautifully kept and clean. Fresh towels and bed linen mid week, unprompted texts suggesting places to visit, offers of help when I was unwell, daily bin emptying and toilet roll replenishment and offers of coffee whenever at the pool area. Local restaurants superb and reasonably priced. Warm sea to swim in. Pool area clean and plenty of sun-beds. Loads of free parking. I would stay here again."

One evening there were rain and they offered us umbrella and there was other small details to make our stay better. We had a room with sea view. Room was clean, had fridge and electric stove, so you can warm your food. Also they had plates and cutlery. There is no parking next to the hotel, but we find a space just in 2 minutes walk. City centre is in walking distance. "

"We rented a car to travel in Rethymno and we were looking for something in the centre of the town, with car parking area and breakfast. We arrived very late at night and we were very welcomed at the reception of Fortezza Hotel and our room with the view of the hotel swimming pool and the garden was wonderful. Breakfast was great and all the staff so helpful and very nice. Next time we will definitely stay longer there."

"Lovely family hotel in a great location, a few minutes walk from the beach and around 10 minutes from the Old Town. The rooms are small but if you're not spending too much time there it isn't a problem. The bathrooms are also on the small side however there are larger showers in the basement which can also be used (alhtough you wouldn't want to be tall!). All in all an excellent hotel with a 5 star service. If I returned to Rethymnon, I would definitely stay there. "
