"There are 3 hotels in the Somerset group. This is away from the beach. Its up a very steep narrow concrete road. Its dark in the night and only 1 vehicle can go up or down this dark narrow road. The hotel staff are really nice. The rooms are a bit dated. The breakfast buffet was a joke as compared to hotels we have stayed in colombo. There was no buffet. Just a plate of fruit and eggs if you asked. Better stay is closer to the beach and somerset has a hotel right on tne beach"

"We stayed for 5 nights. Generally the stay was good but the hotel was a let down a little by the cleanliness of the rooms and that it felt a little tired. Service was good and any issues we had (noisy room and broken bathroom door) were sorted quickly enough. Wifi only worked close to the common areas in the hotel, our rooms were too far away. "

Ensure to enter the number of people you plan to have with you while booking, otherwise you might get surprising surcharges. I checked online and could have gotten the same rate I paid if I entered the right amount of people. "Hotel J has the potential to be a great hotel however the cleanliness and lack of attentiveness from staff lets it down. We arrived with dirty sheets and towels and had to ask several times for this to be changed. Despite this the food at the hotel is very nice and the pool is great at the end of a hot day. Another minor problem is the lack of sun loungers at the pool, there is nowhere to sit! "

"This is a good hotel situated right on the beach. The room had all the basic essentials. We stayed in a budget room. The walls were full of stains and the mosquito net smelled like it hadn't been washed in months. Budget should not mean the room is not maintained. We stayed 5 nights. The food was delicious, a bit overpriced for the serving size but we enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant. Over all, a pleasant stay, helpful and friendly staff. "Overall stay was good. However, the bathrooms are visible inside the room. Not recommended for a family to stay inside the room. I kindly suggest to put up curtains or a blurred glass to have privacy. Also, the balconies are connected to each room with a sliding door which is kind of unnecessary i feel. If it can be locked then it's manageable. But in our case the sliding doors could not be locked. The breakfast was superb. Had plenty of varieties. For lunch we had nasi goreng and it was...

"This is the 3rd time that I am returning to Halcyon. It really is the best hotel on Mawella beach (and maybe even in whole of southern province :) The hotel is beautifully and tastefully decorated, the staff are super friendly, including owner Xander, it's absolutely right on the beach , the food is great. What more to say, it's a little peace of heaven :) "
