Learn more about Grand Pre

This UNESCO site tells the story of Acadian history through its memorial church and interpretive center. Hike the nearby trails for views across the Minas Basin where the world's highest tides transform the landscape.

Statue to the fictional character Evangeline in front of the memorial building for the displaced Acadiens. For 8 years in the middle 1700's the British forcibly removed the French speaking Acadiens from this area because of an unfounded fear that they would take up arms against them. Grand Pre was an area of reclaimed land that was incredibly fertile. Once the Acadiens were removed from the area it was settled by British citizens including some from the original 13 colonies when the American Revolutionary War started.
