It's not advisable to walk alone, even though it's considered the best neighborhood in town. Overall, the city isn't safe. Essential items to bring to this hotel include a power converter (220W power outlets only), a Brazil plug adapter (incompatible with European and North American plugs), and a non-slip bath mat (not provided, and the floor is very slippery). While the bedroom air conditioner works well, brace yourself for heat and humidity once you step into the hallway. Recife's average temperature hovers around 102°F, with high humidity.
