"Great experience all round. We started our honeymoon here before continuing to Ponta delgada. Wish we spent more time here! Staff very friendly and attentive. Loved the premises, pools and sauna. Unfortunately could not get any treatments at the spa - you need to book before you come :( did not know that."

"Hotel Verde Mar and Spa was an excellent place to stay in Ribeira Grande. It was very easy to find and with lots of free parking. Location is perfect with a grocery store across the street and easy walk to old town Ribeira Grande and Vera Marde beach right in front. We had the ocean-view king room with a balcony. I highly recommend upgrading to the ocean view rooms. The sound of the waves, watching surfers out front, beautiful sunsets from the balcony and watching the horses in the field in front of the hotel all made for a wonderful stay. The rooms are spacious, well-equipped (the small fridge is great for dinner leftovers and keeping water bottles cold). The room had a great bathroom with nice shower. The breakfast buffet was excellent with lots of choices. The free bottle of red wine was a great treat. There's an indoor pool and sauna. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Overall, we had an excellent 6 night stay."

"Everything about it was absolutely great. Our unit was spacious, clean and comfortable. The outside facilities as the pools, hot tub were perfect. The private garden couldn't be emphasized enough. What a privilege to stroll through your private forest, so well kept with a river running through it, absolutely magical. The owners are great, very helpful, attentive and super friendly. We will recommend Canto's to anyone we know coming to Sao Miguel."

"Great location - peaceful, tranquil and walkable to the town. Rooms are a little old and could use some upgrades, but was comfortable. They offer towels for going to the thermal pools. Breakfast was standard continental."
