"Outstanding, we are regularly away for the odd night but this is the absolute best place we have stayed! The room (15) was amazing more like an apartment and was spotlessly clean, prosecvo in room was chilled for our arrival and a special birthday treat - chocs and strawberries was a lovely touch. The grounds are immaculate and the food is delicious. Both dinner and breakfast service was perfect, staff from us checking in to us leaving were lovely. We can't wait to stay again and have told everyone we know!!"

"The room was excellent, bed was so comfortable that we slept in on our 1st night, leaving only 1 and a half hours to get ready for a wedding we were going to. The bathroom was lovely, a large shower with rainfall head. Very deep bath that we used on 2nd day. A great menu and restaurants to choose from. The bar was so welcoming with a great whiskey selection for myself and cocktail selection my partner loved. The staff were very friendly and attentive. Our stay Matfen Hall was excellent and I highly recommend. We didn’t use the spa facilities this time but definitely will on our return. Thank you to all the staff who made our stay a pleasure "

"Loved the decor & history of the hotel/castle. The free tour after breakfast was an added bonus. The only downside was the awful shower curtain over the bath. "

"This place was so cute and the staff were awesome! Hotel is so full of history! This was very close to Sycamore Gap at Hadrians Wall which is why we chose it. Parking is a bit of a challenge but the lady gave us a great tip on what time to come back and we were able to get a spot right in front! I can’t say enough nice things about the staff! So friendly! "
