"What a find this place was. We needed somewhere to stay and shelter from Storm Dave rather than risk the campervan. We were lucky enough to find the family room at the String of Horses. Amazing food in the pub, amazing and super friendly staff, especially the lady who sorted out brownie pieces for my ten year old rather than the Sundae dessert version. The breakfast in the morning, ordered from a menu rather than buffet was delicious with great options. Added bonus was how close the pub was to all the Hadrians Wall forts and activities which we also stumbled across the next day on our way to Scotland. 5 stars, 10/10, if I could give more I would."

"This was our second visit to High House as a family of 9. 6 adults and 3 children of various ages. The House was very well decorated for Christmas and the welcome pack was very well thought out and most importantly very tasty. There is ample room for everyone to stay together and also have their own space if needed. We found the beds to be really comfy and the rooms spacious. Barbara our host communicated really well in the lead up to our stay and even popped over on our first night to check we were ok and show us the appliances. Its location for us gave the best of both worlds. You can be in the middle of nowhere in the hot tub watching the Deers, pheasants and robin and yet only 20 mins to Carlisle or Penrith for all your essentials and days out. Overall a great holiday. Would happily stay a 3rd time."

"Property was very clean and a lovely welcome of home made soda bread and ginger cake, was a treat.We found the stairs a little difficult at times, but all rooms were beautiful, characterful and homely.Shame we couldn’t use the TV due to lack of wifi but we appreciate the area has problems with signals.We would have liked some egg cups but overall it was a well stocked kitchen.Thank you for a wonderful stay."

"Nicely appointed cottage that had everything you could need.Plenty of internal space, outside rooftop patio and hidden garden area.No wifi signal, and poor mobile phone signal added to the seclusion - away from the real world. Very rural, transport necessary to get anywhere."

"Everything was good, accommodation was as advertised. One disappointment as a DVD was mentioned in the equipment list at the Cottage so we took a lot of DVD’s for the children. The slip mat in the bath was torn and a slip mat in the walk-in shower downstairs would improve the safety. Apart from these perhaps a fly curtain would be a good idea at the doorway to the jacuzzi as this was open a lot during our stay. These are recommendations only but I feel would improve the facilities. Nevertheless we had an enjoyable stay."
