Captain’s Hideout is a peaceful, dog-friendly, owner-managed waterfront home in quiet Avon Village. With a private sandy soundfront beach, wraparound decks, and gorgeous sunset views over the Pamlico Sound, it’s an easy place to relax, recharge, and truly get away.
Wake up to shimmering water views from your king suite, sip morning coffee on the deck, spend the day swimming, paddling, sunning or simply unwinding in the hammock under the oaks. The beach is just steps from the house—no long walks with chairs or gear.
Inside, you’ll find a clean, well-stocked, modern-rustic home with all essentials provided: made beds, towels, beach towels, detergent, kitchen staples, and a fully equipped kitchen. Outdoors enjoy SUP boards, bikes, beach chairs, a fire pit, and a quiet residential setting with wildlife and endless sunsets.
You’re close to grocery stores, restaurants, shops, and the Avon Pier—yet far enough to feel like you’ve escaped. Guests love how peaceful, clean, and comfortable everything is… and most say they can’t wait to come back.

Captains hideout is a fantastic Outer Banks getaway. Perfectly located on Pamlico Sound quiet, beautiful sunsets and still close to anything u could want on Hatteras Island. We would book this place again in a second when we return. It was everything we wanted in our stay and more.

House was clean, cute and nice location. Description is accurate. Neighborhood is very quiet.Parking was great. Bikes provided were nice to ride to local restaurants, businesses, pier and beach. Too windy this week to use the SUP's. Private beach area and view of the sound was great. Also the covered deck was enjoyable for us and our pups, used frequently.

This was our first time renting on the sound and we chose the perfect house! The house was clean, exactly as described and the location was perfect! We were close to restaurants, shops, and a little playground for the kids. Karen, the host, was quick to respond , she even checked in in on us on our drive down to see our eta and give instructions. She provided every ounce of instruction and recommendation you would need while staying there. Check in was easy, check out was easy. The private beach was great for the sunset and beautiful to just sit at. Would definitely rent again!

This is our 2nd time staying at the Captains Hideout. Both very positive experiences. The owner is very responsive and gives great info of the area and the house. Everything you could need is there, minus the food. Looking forward to another relaxing vacation.

Excellent!

We had a great time at Captain's Hideout! What a beautiful property. Everything clean, comfortable, and just so convenient. Excellent communication with the owner. Great for dogs as the back yard is fenced in. Beautiful Sunsets from the deck, great sound side access through a very small wooded area that is well lit and clear. Of course, you may get delayed making your way out to the sound by the hammock hanging just off the path that is always shaded. A great place to stay! We will be back.

Best sunset on the island!

Captains Cove is a beautiful home with a comfortable yet chic decor. The wrap around deck is filled with plants and flowers so every nook is inviting. Karen is a kind and generous host having lots of items in the home you often find you need but forget when you arrive. Our family of three and two pups can’t wait to return!

Perfect home!

We have vacationed in OBX many times, probably around 10X. Our son & family were also vacationing in the area but we wanted our own space. Captain’s Hideout was absolutely perfect. The interior is beautifully furnished, the amenities superior, the location exactly what we wanted. Can’t say enough good about the outdoor decks & the yard. Perfect for our elderly dog. Truly appreciate the landscaping.

Wonderful vacation!

We so enjoyed our stay. The house is very nice and tastefully decorated. We loved the walk in shower upstairs. Perfect house if you have pups as there is a gated wraparound porch and a fenced in area in the back yard. The neighborhood is quiet and great for evening walks. The private beach is so cool! We even had a fire in the fire pit one night. Truly a special house. Sunsets were amazing. Hope to return next year.

An unforgettable stay!

Captain’s hideout is an absolute gem! Gorgeous water views from practically every room. The sunsets every evening were spectacular. The house itself was incredibly clean and well furnished. Beds were super comfy and we slept so well every night. The kids had fun fishing off the dock and riding bikes. Karen is very responsive and truly the hostess with the mostest. Avon is a cute town and centrally positioned for drives to the Cape Hatteras national seashore and other attractions, without the tourist hordes up north. Lots of cute little restaurants with excellent seafood. We had a fantastic week in the OBX and our stay at Karen’s was a big reason why. We’ll be back!

View not what expected

The home itself was fine , however the smell of mildew was very prevalent , the best view of the sound is on the top bedroom deck however , the railings on that deck are very loose and dangerous . The view of the sound from the first floor deck is obstructed by foliage . Kitchen was well stocked . I doubt if we will be returning in the future .

Amazing get away

We left to celebrate to find out our hometown in WNC was wrecked by hurricane Helene but Karen was so accommodating and understanding and made the stay as comforting despite all the stress back home. The house was so clean and so cute and the dogs enjoyed themselves too. Def stay here you won’t regret it ! Kind host with the most that’s for sure !

Captain’s Hideout is the Perfect Location to stay in Avon, NC!!!! Captain’s Hideout is located at a stunning spot on the Sound. We enjoyed the beautiful wrap around deck which had plenty of seats. We used the outdoor grill several times. There was even extra propane if we needed it. There is a nice office, if you’re working while vacationing. The second level has a second beautiful master bedroom which leads out to a private observation deck which was perfect for our coffee in the morning. We also used it to watch the sun set over the water with a cocktail in the evening. The pictures we took were beautiful. We loved the incredible open/stand-alone shower. The kitchen had everything we needed to make dinner after buying some local seafood. Everything was clean and well stocked! The backyard is fenced in - perfect for our dogs. The outdoor shower has hot and cold water to rinse off after we hung out on the private beach. There are chairs on the beach and a hammock to relax. The steps straight down to the water made it easy for launching my kayak. Our dogs were also able to easily get in and out of the water for a swim. There is a fire pit and wood was also provided. Thank you sooooo much Karen for your more than generous hospitality!!!! We loved meeting you and learning about the history of the home and location. We all had the time of Our lives visiting Avon, NC because of you! We will most definitely come and visit you again! Your NEW Friends- Michelle&Mike

First visit and definitely not our last!

We absolutely loved this property! The location on the water with our own private sound side beach was perfect and the privacy.....! Even though there were neighboring houses, the position of the house and mature vegetation gave the sense of seclusion. We weren't looking straight over into the neighbor's business and they weren't looking into ours . Karen had taken care of every amenity you could ask for... Well stocked! The home is gorgeous!We were a little disappointed that a storm had destroyed the dock but the owner has scheduled for it to be rebuilt this Fall. The water in the sound is shallow enough to wade fish if you go prepared. I could go on and on. Karen was a pleasure to converse with, always answering promptly and sharing the history and evolution of the home. Can't wait for our next trip!

Amazing gorgeous views

We had a party of four. Both bedrooms featured luxurious mattresses and sliding doors to the decks with breath-taking views of the sound and oh my gosh, the sunset, the pictures that I got are spectacular. And the memories we will have for a lifetime.The sound is gorgeous and all the water.Sports are so fun.Our younger couple had it great time riding around on the beach.Cruisers and the pool was awesome. The beach access is just a short Walk or ride on one of the beach cruisers or drive , but it's only like one mile away It took us like two minutes to get there in the car. And I didn't even know. I was a bird watcher but the binoculars downstairs and upstairs with a beautiful way to view. I had a spectacular time watching birds and now I have a new hobby. The master bedroom upstairs was magnificent.It was adjacent to a big huge master bathroom with a huge bathtub and a shower with a tall shower head and and a shorter one my husband really really loved the shower The host Karen is the best host.I've ever had She is there For anything that you may need her for. She even gives tips on local things to do like the farmer.Market she told us about and I got some amazing local art. I can't stress how nice this property is.Everything you need is inside.Everything is stocked and clean.I would definitely want to stay here again That's what I got hereaamazing.

The location was absolutely stunning! The house was perfect for us. There were a couple of things that needed fixing, but we still loved our entire vacation! Can't wait to return to Hatteras Island next summer.
