A relaxing rural getaway
Beautiful grounds, we loved playing sport in the big garden, the trampoline, swimming pool (would have liked it a bit warmer but the host told us this was not possible), and the outdoor bbq and seating areas. Plenty of space for our family in a lovely location.

Even better than expected
We are usually of the opinion you should never holiday in the same place twice - the world is too big! However our time at "lac ferrier" may have changed our minds. Firstly, the photos really don't do the villa justice - it is truly a lovely family home that is both comfortable and practical. It's clear the owners have gone to a lot of trouble and expense making this a home from home. The house has everything you could wish for in terms of kitchen equipment, and the grounds and pool are fantastic. We were unlucky to experience a problem with the pool during our stay (Which would be unlikely to happen to anyone else), but the owner went out of his way to fix it and ensure we were happy - you can't ask more from an owner. The whole region is beautiful and there are lots of delightful towns to explore nearby. We would throughly recommend this villa and hope to return one day.

Wow!! Amazing!!!
This house was amazing. On arrival Lac Ferrier was extremely clean, well equipped and the complementary bread, butter and jam were delicious and much appreciated after a long drive. We felt at home straight away, the beds were extremely comfortable, lots of wardrobe space, relaxing open plan living dining, kitchen which was perfect for a social holiday. The grounds were something else. The entertainment of the frogs in the pond providing us with a regular chorus and keeping the children occupied for hours trying to find one! A super flat area for the children play badminton, boules and football and jump on the large trampoline while we sat comfortably under the stunning gazebo (we took our own sports equipment) . Under the gazebo is a huge table with a lazy susan which is a huge asset. The pool was heated to a perfect temperature and was a great size for hours of fun. The sunbeds were really comfortable to lay out on while soaking up the beautiful sunshine. There is so much more I could say but to sum it up our holiday was relaxing and tranquil. We have been to the Dordogne many times before and this time just wanted to relax. There is plenty to do if you choose to from cycling, kayaking, castles, corn mazes...the list is endless. One visit we all thoroughly enjoyed with our 4 children aged 14, 13, 12 and 6 was The Marqueyssac gardens. Thank you Wallyd, we had an wonderful time!

Stunning house and gardens and lovely warm pool
House and gardens were stunning and very well maintained. Very importantly for me it was also very clean . The whole family loved the very warm swimming pool and spent several hours in it every day. The area is very beautiful, and driving was a pleasure because of this and roads were very quiet. We spent a lot of time at house , enjoying the pool and garden which was very large with a pond and fruit trees and plenty of space for outdoor activities. There are many beautiful and interesting places to visit within an hours drive but we could have stayed at house the whole holiday it was very relaxing. Owner was also easily contactable and helpful if required. Would recommend to anyone and are already thinking of booking again next year.

Beautiful gardens and pool, very well equipped house.
This is a lovely house which is very spacious and well equipped. The pool area and gardens are beautiful, and there is a trampoline, swings, slide etc. for young children. It is in a peaceful location with good views of the surrounding countryside. There is a baker about 5 minutes drive away, supermarkets 15 minutes away, and lots of very pretty towns, chateaus and gardens within easy reach. Overall highly recommended.

Enjoyed it as much the second time!
This is the second time we've stayed at Lac Ferrier - at a very different time of year. All our comments in the first review remain the same, hence why we booked again. One of the things we really like about the property is the care and attention that the owners put in - so the sunshade has been upgraded and improved and there are new chairs and crockery from last time we stayed. In terms of the spec - it's a lovely and well maintained family home first, which is rented out to guests second. We appreciated the bread/milk/jam which was left for us on arrival too. The house is a fairly remote location, very quiet and private - but because we had a few days of bad rain we used the inside a lot more, including the heating which was wonderful! A couple of pointers for things to do - the best local bakery we found by far is the one in Cubjac - about a 12 minute drive away. If you are stuck for something to do on a rainy Sunday, there is a small market at Rouffignac in the am and then we went to the Grotte de Rouffignac which is a 1km below ground train ride through the most amazing prehistoric drawings. The commentary is in French - you can hire an electronic guide in other languages - but you will get the more out of it if one of your party speaks a bit of French. There is also a massive market in La Bugue on Tuesday and a play park there with crazy golf and climbing which would be good for older children. We love the area and Lac Ferrier remains a great place to stay.

Wonderful holiday home
Beautiful and peaceful villa in a gorgeous setting located at the top of a hill. Extremely well equipped inside, particularly the kitchen. Lovely good sized pool and delightful gardens, plenty of forest walks on your doorstep. We spent a great week there in August 2017 as a family of 4 (2 kids aged 7 and 9). Particularly enjoyed making the most of the fruit trees (peaches, figs, damsons!), lazing around the pool and the very active frog pond! We also made it over to Eyzies for kayaking, Cubjac for a paddle in the river, and several of the local caves and castles. 2km from nearest restaurant/bar in Blis-et-Born, a short drive to the nearest bakery. Wallyd and Mr Luc both very organised and pleasant to do business with. Many thanks again for a wonderful stay! Highly recommended.

Excellent. Would highly recommend.
We had a very relaxing stay in July 2017. The house was clean and well presented and it proved to be a fabulous base for our week's holiday. The heated pool was a huge success and is a particular plus for anyone with young children. The grounds were peaceful with plenty of space for the children to run around and we had many an enjoyable meal in the shade of the pergoda. The presence of air-conditioning was an added bonus when we had a couple of very hot days.

Immaculate, spacious villa, excellent value, with gorgeous grounds and helpful owner
We had a lovely week in the villa last week. The villa is spotless (and I can be very squeamish about these things!) and the furnishings are new. It feels more like a home than a rental property - clearly the property is loved and cared for. It has all mod cons that are hard to find elsewhere, even air conditioning and a heated pool which were essential for us with a 7 month old baby. The pool is fab and the easy-to-use cover keeps it nice and clean without the need to fish bits out every morning, our baby loved it and went in every day! The barbecue was excellent and we used it several times, it is beside the pool and there is a table and chairs nearby. Loved the new bespoke table complete with 'lazy Susan'! Everything is very well thought out. The villa would be great for a big group, though we were only 5 and even only using the ground floor had more than enough space. Would highly recommend for families - there is some play equipment in the garden and loads of safe, large areas for children to run around in if needed. Even a big trampoline which of course I had to have a go on... We enjoyed the wildlife and think we saw polecats and a hoopoe, not to mention the cows with their calves in the field next door, oh and the sound of the frogs! I was concerned the pond might attract mosquitoes but this wasn't a problem at all. The grounds were lovely with some beautiful flowers. On the whole we were very impressed. The owner even sourced a high chair especially for our stay. If I'm being picky, we would have welcomed a little more info on the local area such as local places to eat (opening times etc), precise directions to the nearest super market and bakeries, and perhaps a little welcome pack of essentials (bread, milk) as we arrived later than planned and needed to get the baby to bed and in the end we went hungry as the super market was a little tricky to find and we were too late by the time we got there and nothing else was open. Partly poor planning on our part. A large kitchen knife, grater and possibly another armchair would be useful too especially for larger groups. I am only mentioning these things because in the hopes Wallyd will find the feedback useful. It is a fabulous villa and we would like to thank Wallyd for a lovely holiday. Don't hesitate to book it!

Everything made easy for us by this lovely house!
We really enjoyed our stay in June 2016. The setting is rural - you definitely need a car but the house has everything else you need at hand. It's fitted out to a high standard - comfortable beds (all without any foot board/bedstead at the end - important if you are over 6ft!) - amazing sized kitchen, and the house and gardens are kept to a high standard. The photos on this site are true to what is there and how the property is set up. We liked that the house is set back a bit from the road behind a mature hedge so you feel comfortable and private when outside. The pool is heated just enough that it isn't cold but is still refreshing on a hot day. Enjoyed the frog chorus from the pond every morning, watching the swifts during the day and bat-spotting at night. Overall it felt more like staying at a close friend's house than a holiday home and we'd definitely recommend it. There are plenty of things to do between 30 mins and 1 hour away - the market at Périgueux is fun to wander round on a Weds morning and we drove to Monbazillac to look round the house and do a bit of wine tasting which was also a nice day out.
