Shipping Container on Center Hill Lake!

Summary:
This one-of-a-kind shipping container home is the perfect spot for a small family or a couples get away. The setting is a beautiful private hilltop overlooking Center Hill Lake.

The Space:
Come to unwind in the hot tub while watching your favorite movie or sporting event in the screened-in patio area or relax with friends or family on one of two large deck areas, with an additional outdoor TV overlooking the lake. At night, you will love the fire-pit area in the backyard by the trees with the lake just below.

During your stay, take a stroll up and down the rarely traveled neighborhood roads to the lake and enjoy a picnic by the water and spot all the wildlife along the way.

If you are coming to the area to hike, you will not find a better place to stay! Center Hill Container is located less than 15 miles from Burgess Falls State Park and only 8 miles away from Window Cliffs State Natural Area. Both have hikes for all different ability levels.

For a day on the lake, bring your boat, canoe or kayak and launch in the neighborhood at the Austin Bottoms Boat Launch area just down the road. There is plenty of parking in the drive for a boat trailer. Cookville Boat Dock and Marina is less than 10 miles away if you need a place to leave your boat overnight during your stay. While at the marina, you can enjoy lunch or dinner at the Lighthouse Restaurant waterside in season. If you don't have your own boat you can rent a pontoon boat for the day here.

Great Weekend Getaway

My wife and I needed a weekend getaway, and this place was incredible. Despite the incessant rain throughout the weekend, we didn’t mind. The screened porch offered ample space, and the cozy house was perfect for the two of us. We’d definitely be returning!

Amazing rental and views!

This was my first experience staying in a shipping container home. The pictures didn’t even come close to doing the rental and surrounding property justice. The property was everything it was described as. The panoramic view of the lake and river were breathtaking. I can’t imagine what it looks like in the midst of fall foliage. The only challenge we had was no fault of the property owners or management company. I have a fear of heights. The drive in hugged the cliffs over the water. There were quite a few switchbacks and the road was a combination of blacktop and gravel. Once we made it, we didn’t leave until check out. There was plenty to do - walk to the lake, use the hot tub, build a campfire, stargaze and more. It did throw a wrench in our plans to hike surrounding waterfalls and visit the adorable town of Cookeville. This won’t impact everyone but others in my position should know.

Great setting, but has it's challenges

The setting is gorgeous and the outside features are nice. We had to move our plans out a week, and the management was helpful to do that, so that bumped the rating up. Yet pictures don't tell the whole story. Don't plan on making food easily. The cooking surface is a very small glass cooktop that has touch controls, but is not inherently obvious on how to operate. Also, since there is no vent hood, cooking fried eggs set off the smoke alarm. The only solution was to keep the window open, which was not fun at outside temps of 45. Using the microwave's "bake" feature also set off the alarm, though no smoke was visible coming out of the microwave. The interior seating is not comfortable. The 2 futons upstairs were decently stained and thinly padded at best. One comfortable couch would have made a huge difference. Also, there was a plethora of dead bugs around and under the futons. A posted list of "Welcome Instructions" on how to use the cooktop, hot tub, coffee maker, etc. would have lowered initial frustration. This is a 'tiny' house, so uniqueness is expected, but a few basic changes would make a big difference. While the seclusion is great, and the promise of a "unique experience" was true (not really in a good way), a return trip is not in the plans.
