Great place with great staff in the hotel

We were originally thought the hotel was not at part with the Sofitel brand, it was kinda small in scale and lobby facilities, however the staff and the manager of the front desk Mr. Li was very helpful to make our stay as smooth as possible, they even upgraded our room to make it at home. It was once a W hotel.

Fantastic Location, near the Jianguomen subway station (line 1&2) Exit C the view was amazing too. I would recommend staying here. (McDonalds and Starbucks within walking distance)

Location-wise, it is centrally located but do not get there by subway if you have large luggage as you have to go up 6 flights of stairs to get to the surface. The property is ok but some stains and damages on the back of the door/wall. The lighting is kind of dark and difficult to see even you do not have any visual impair. Good to have free mini-bar. Breakfast is pretty good, large selection.

Overall was a nice Hotel. Very quiet as guests start to come back to China. Room was over hot and no local control so after a couple nights bad sleep and feeling sick, got maintenance to open the windows. Made it just bearable. Buffet dinner and breakfast good, but dinner only on weekends and the Chinese restaurant was pretty upper class. That left in room dining, so when I finally located a menu the food was good, if not way too much. Massage downstairs was good and the gym and pool exceptional. Could easily get 2km in each day given a nice 25m length.

We stayed in Sofitel Beijing Grand for 7 nights. The hotel was not near any metro station but thankfully, Didi ride-hailing (the equivalent of Uber and Grab) is very affordable in Beijing. The front office staff and concierge were not friendly and could be rude at times when you asked them for more information about the hotel and help in booking Didi rides. Most of them could only speak a little English. The hotel is poorly maintained with quite a few torn cushions in the dining room. The breakfast buffet spread had little Western variety and the pastries were hard and stale. The centrally controlled aircon wasn't cool enough and there wasn't any temperature control in the room. However, the saving grace came from the housekeeper, 岳海英 (under the supervisor 冯军) who did a fantastic job in keeping the room clean and ensuring an adequate supply of bottled water and toiletries. If it weren't for the housekeeping, I would have rated the hotel as terrible.

The hotel is nice and the staff are kind, always trying to help, but communication can be difficult since very few of them speak english. Compared to Shanghai, it was noticeable that much less english is spoken in the city. Location is not the most convenien: going to the Forbidden City or joining a Great Wall tour always required taking a taxi. One thing to note is that the hotel feels a bit less organized than others I’ve stayed in. For example, during our stay the city went into a sort of lockdown due to rehearsals for the Chinese military parade, but the hotel gave no prior notice and reception did not provide clear answers. We even had a guard on our very floor and none one told us. Overall, friendly service but with room for improvement in organization and communication.
