Lake Superior is the largest freshwater lake in the world by surface area. From Alpen Villa 8, it's 20 minutes. Drive west on Black River Road — stop at the waterfalls, all five of them — and finish at Black River Harbor, where the forest opens onto an emerald inlet and the size of the lake doesn't fully register until you're standing at the edge of it.

Back at the condo: two bedrooms and 1.5 baths for eight, a fully equipped kitchen, and a wood-burning fireplace with firewood included. Your private balcony is set up for grilling. The lower deck — shared with Alpen Villa 7 — has the hot tub. The two community firepits at the ends of the building are open to all guests with firewood provided. Slow evening in? Pac-Man is ready.

Alpen Villa 8 connects to Alpen Villa 7 for groups up to 16. Big Powderhorn Mountain Resort is a short walk away when the snow arrives.
