Originally built in the 12th century as the chapel of the residence of the Count of Flanders, the church houses a venerated relic of the Holy Blood allegedly collected by Joseph of Arimathea and brought from the Holy Land by Thierry of Alsace, Count of Flanders. Built between 1134 and 1157, it was promoted to minor basilica in 1923. The 12th-century basilica is located in the Burg square and consists of a lower and upper chapel. The lower chapel dedicated to St. Basil the Great is a dark Romanesque structure that remains virtually unchanged. The venerated relic is in the upper chapel, which was rebuilt in the Gothic style during the 16th century and renovated multiple times during the 19th century in Gothic Revival style. Bruges is the capital and largest city of the province of West Flanders in the Flemish Region of Belgium, in the northwest of the country. The historic city centre is a prominent World Heritage Site of UNESCO. Along with a few other canal-based northern cities, such as Amsterdam, it is sometimes referred to as The Venice of the North. First the warm welcome from the staff at check-in, they got us checked in, and then gave us a rundown of a few things to see in Brugge, where to eat and what to avoid. The room was clean, huge in size, and quiet. Only downside was the mattress was a little bit hard. The front desk team were very amenable to our requests too.

We had a really nice stay over the weekend in the Hotel Flanders. We had a shared balcony for our two rooms which was amazing! The breakfast was really nice and I liked the vibe of the hotel. It's located only a few minutes from the city centre and thanks to this you have a lot of quiet during the night. Also nice and helpful personnel :)

Fantastic stay. Hotel is a lovely 10 min stroll from the main market place which is perfect. Friendly staff , rooms lovely and clean. Recommend the breakfast too.

The person at the reception desk was amazing -- I can't remember his name now but he comes from Turkey and speaks 5 or 6 languages, and makes everything he can to make us comfortable and to provide solutions. Very nice stay.

Excellent Hotel and Even Better Team

We were staying for the Tour of Flanders, and from the moment we arrived the team could not have been more accommodating. Secure storage for bikes, early breakfast on event day, super friendly and predicting our needs before we asked.

Short Stay

Didn’t start well by the receptionist not being aware of a disabled toilet on the ground floor near the reception area. On one occasion an empty bottle was not cleared from our room. One sugar sachet was left on another day but 6 or 7 packets of creamer was left. Minor things but the room was over €1000 for three nights and 4 stars. The bar wqs nice and the hotel is in a good location.

Lots of mosquitoes

It was a bad experience. The room was clean and comfortable, but there is some problem because even with the windows closed mosquitoes kept getting inside the room. Did not sleep properly with mosquitoes the whole night. Everyt ime I killed one mosquito another would show up, four in total the whole evening. Did not sleep properly. The window has a mosquitoes net, so, the property should investigate where the mosquitoes are coming from and fix it. It's a pity, it would have been a wonderful stay if there were no mosquitoes entering the room and I had slept a good night sleep.

Less than average for the price paid. The communal areas are lovely, the bar and breakfast and good location - however once you step into the room it’s another story. Our first room smelt of sweaty football boots. We then found wallpaper peeling off the walls in multiple areas from damp. The reception staff were quite dismissive saying they had never had a problem with the room - so my husband showed them pictures. They initially said there were no other rooms available however you could book rooms online still. A new room seemed to become available - it was much larger, didn’t smell but only single beds and extremely skinny / small single beds at that. My daughter fell out of hers and ended up sleeping on the floor and you only get one thin lumpy pillow each. Fortunately my daughter bought a pillow with her. You can hear the noise from every other room also …. On checkout when gave our feedback they didn’t seem bothered and also made a comment saying they checked our previous room and there was no problem with it - red flag!!! Clearly not going to fix the issue for the next guests. Therefore I would definitely not recommend this hotel to a friend nor would we stay there again. Wish we had moved a few doors up the road as there was a beautiful hotel for the same price. The location is good, the bar staff and breakfast staff were lovely- just a shame about reception and the rooms.

Summer visit

The room was kept very clean and tidy. Very nice bath/shower. Bed was fairly comfortable and there isn't much noise coming from outside. Great location for exploring central brugge. Checking in and out was smooth and easy. Very nice buffet breakfast. The main downside is that the room can get a little too warm in summer.
