WHY VISIT WATAUGA LAKE? Watauga Lake is one of the most beautiful and clean recreational lakes (3rd cleanest in the country) on the eastern seaboard. It’s located in the Cherokee National forest with 105 miles of shoreline. More than half of the lake is bordered by undeveloped national forest. Watauga lake is great for boating, jet-skiing, tubing, skiing/wakeboarding, fishing, swimming, kayaking etc. You can easily take day trips to whitewater rafting, a local winery, hike the Appalachian trail or Roan Mountain (known for gorgeous views, rhododendron forests, and cross country skiing) or find a secluded waterfall (we’ve got maps at the chalet). Drive to the thriving college town of Boone, NC 45 minutes away (check the concert schedule!), or visit the popular Banner Elk and Blowing Rock, NC. The summers are sunny and warm during the day with no mosquitoes (incredible, but true!), and the evenings cool off in the 60’s – making the nights extremely pleasant. Autumn brings beautiful fall colors with even better views. In the winter time, skiing is a popular option at nearby Beech Mountain. Lake Hideaway Chalet is truly a wonderland of recreational activity!

The house and surrounding area was so peaceful! We thoroughly enjoyed taking the canoe out on the lake and exploring. We plan to book a long weekend in the summer when the water is warm enough to swim in!
The Lakefront Chalet was the perfect spot for a Thanksgiving trip with our college kids. Quiet, secluded, and cozy. We enjoyed many walks on the main road. The owners are great! They made sure every need was met from a fully stocked kitchen, a clean home, detailed directions to activies, and quick to reply to questions. We hope to be back in the summer to enjoy the water.
Our stay was during the middle of the week and we had the lake to ourselves. The cabin is remote with no major roads or traffic noise, but other cabins nearby. It was a perfect relaxing getaway.
We really enjoyed our stay! We explored Watauga Lake (on paddle board & kayak), explored the Blue Ridge Parkway and visited family in the nearby tri-cities area. The chalet was private, comfortable and had everything we needed.
The place was super clean. We loved having access to the lake. I used it to fish the cove a bit. We didn't use the watercraft at all but they were very conveniently located. We really enjoyed the fire pit in the fall weather. The karaoke machine is also a ton of fun!
So glad we where able to return this year. We always have such a good trip when visiting Tennessee. this is one of our favorite cabins to book! Definitely will be back next year for our yearly trip!
We had such a great time! The chalet looks exactly like what you think it will based on the pics. The absolute silence was so relaxing and the trip overall lead to some amazing family memories for the kids. Definately planning a return during the summer months!
This property checks all the boxes for my family. Right on the lake, private dock with kayaks, canoe, PFDs. Great fire pit area and gas grill. It was heavenly.
First, the host was amazing. Clear driving and check in instructions. Had a few questions and she was very responsive via VRBO messaging and text. It rained the first few days, but we enjoyed the house- reading, playing cards, and enjoying the view. The dock was great for hanging and jumping in the water. Boat launch easy to find and use. Great stay!
Clean, well stocked, nice views, dock and boats. Easy communication and xheck in and out. Lots of stairs to the dock. Nice secluded location between Boone and trout streams. I would definitely stay again.
I love every second that we stayed here. Everything checks our ideal vacation. Quiet, secluded w/ a beautiful view. Our older dog is non aggressive reactive so every year I try to find us a secluded place where he could enjoy too. This is definitely the top of the most beautiful place we’ve ever stay. Made my birthday/ family trip extra special. Ms Karen was a great host! Will definitely stay here again..
The host was friendly ,open and easy to communicate with. She seems like the kind of person you wouldn't mind getting to know. The setting of the house is beautiful!!The house needs some work though.Maybe a new dishwasher, oven,a shower head that doesn't get the floor all wet ...... pretty much like here at home.Even with the rain all week we couldnt help but feel so blessed.
If you're looking to escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, look no further. The Lake Hideaway Chalet is the place to be. A cozy A-frame home nestled in the hillside, secluded from the outside world with a beautiful view of the Watauga Lake. The LHC has all the amenities you need, including kayaks and canoe. An ample deck provides a beautiful spot to gather and enjoy the scenery. Our week stay at the end of February was a wonderful way to rest, relax and recharge.
Lovely lakeside cabin with beautiful views and lakeside access. It was hard to find-better directions would help. The beds weren’t very comfortable and the listing mentions a hot tub, but it’s really a jetted tub in the bathroom. Some shoreline litter too. We still enjoyed our stay but guests should know what to expect.
We spent a short weekend here and wish we could have stayed longer. The house had everything we needed to be comfortable and wonderful views of a quiet cove. Gated porch with a table and chairs was secure for dogs and flat sideyard with fire pit was perfect. Launched our boat and stored our trailer at Fish Springs marina and we’re VERY glad we didn’t bring them up to the neighborhood. Launch nearest neighborhood was
Blocked by and anchored pontoon boat most of the weekend. Dock was perfect for swimming off of and tying up the boat. Cove is deep water and quiet and calm. Would come back in a heartbeat!!
