Hôtel Majestic

Hôtel Majestic

10/10 Excellent
"I had high expectations and they were met and exceeded. The staff are polite, courteous and professional without being robotic, and that makes a difference. The room was larger than expecting, well furnished. The bathroom was good and the buttons for the shower avoided the usual fear of having to take a degree in plumbing that you usually find with hotel bathrooms. The bed was a little firmer than I like but then everyone has different tastes. The coffee was good, the water fountain downstairs good (although I didn't really want to go down in my pyjamas). The hotel was better than the photos!"

"Great room with plenty of space and very quiet- no noticeable noise from other guests or the road. Secure underground parking available at an extra cost. Very comfortable bed. Fridge, kettle and proper mugs in the room. We used the laundry room which was great- costs around £2.40 for each wash/drying cycle. There’s also an iron and ironing board in the room. We ate dinner in the hotel restaurant and it was very good and reasonably priced too. Gym is open 24 hours and has some decent equipment and hand weights, plus the room has air conditioning which is always a plus. There is a water filter machine near reception and it’s free to use. Staff were very friendly and helpful with transport information and suggestions of places to visit. The hotel is a little way from the centre of the city but easy to reach by tram or bus, taking approximately 10 minutes. The bus stops right outside the hotel and the walk to the tram stop is about 10 minutes. We walked into the centre along the river and it took 25 minutes. There’s a Carrefore supermarket next door to the hotel. The only negative point is that the air conditioning was not cool enough. We would definitely stay here again."

"The hotel is clean and simple. The rooms have good aircon, soundproof amd blackout blinds. Close to trams and 5-10 min walk to the centre. It is no frills but good value if you are out exploring the city and need a good night sleep"

Hôtel de Normandie

Hôtel de Normandie

8/10 Good
"The hotel occupies a very convenient central location, directly opposite the tourist office. There is no car parking, but it's adjacent to the Quinconces tram intersection (a downside of this being that trams are audible from the rooms from early morning until late at night). The reception is staffed 24 hours and we were always greeted with a friendly smile from the receptionist on duty at the time. The rooms are fairly spacious with generous storage space, including a lockable safe and a small fridge and minibar. Breakfasts are the usual selection of cereals, bread, pastries, cold meats and cheeses, juices and hot drinks. The first few days of our stay there were also scrambled eggs and bacon available on the self-service counter. This was not always the case on subsequent days, although cooked eggs would always be prepared on request, giving you the option for example of having an omelette instead of scrambled eggs. The hotel provides no other meals apart from breakfast, however it is just a short walk away from the Rue Saint-Remi, Bordeaux's main street for restaurants. There you can find a wide range of national and international cuisines on offer."

"It’s a beautiful property. The staff were friendly and helpful. The spa was very good. They do not provide much in the way of toiletries. They charge for using a bicycle. I have eaten dinner in the main dining room and the meal was excellent. Hiwever, I was unable to get into the dining room this time and dined at the bar, outside. We both ordered a steak and potato meal that followed a simple and delicious salad. Unfortunately, we both found our two a steaks, cooked à point ( medium rare) tough, gristly, and almost inedible. We each left two thirds of the beef uneaten. Such a disappointment."

"We were over the moon by our bed!!! The staff was very helpful & hospitable. Great shower. The ONLY reason I wouldn’t rank this hotel as 101 out of 100 is because we didn’t have a coffee maker in the room. I’m an introvert (a writer) —I prefer to make my own coffee as I want silence in the morning. Everything else was exceptional!!!"
